I was so happy to find this support group. I really miss talking with people and being out and about. Had to give up my teaching job of 22 years. How is your social life?

Social life???? I don't have many friends, more like acquaintances. This is a great group, though, and it's easy to make friends here. Welcome.

HI faith, welcome to our fibro family. You are welcomed with open arms. Everyone here knows what you are going thru. I do believe that there are a few teachers here too. This is the best place to meet people who understand you. Keep on posting so we get to know you better.

Hugs

What's a social life? Hi, Faith! I'm so glad you found your way here. This is pretty much my social life. To be honest, I have more friends and social interaction here than I did before fibro.

When I was working I was always too busy for friends, really. Just a select few. Here you'll find loads of people to get to know.

We get crazy, we laugh, we cry, we commiserate, we rant. See? There's something for everyone Smile

What did you teach? Doesn't it stink not being able to work?

I hope you weren't an English teacher. Mostly we're reduced to a lot of fibroese around here. We do our best, though!

Please make yourself at home and jump into any of the discussions as the spirit moves you! We're very happy to have you join our ranks!

Faith, I have recently had to stop working a job that I have had for 17 years so I know that it makes you feel bad to have to give it up. My social life is now next to zilch. I have 4 kids that I stil do for and that is about the extent of it. I used to get out and do with them and socialize with fiends and other parents but I cannot anymore. I am so glad I have found this website because I helps me talk to others.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I already feel better! I taught grades K-2 and when I had to retire, I was a Reading Specialist for 1st graders. I am not a stay-at-home person, so am trying to branch out somewhat to keep from losing my mind. But as you all know, when the pain comes, you have to respond. I can't take meds--they just make me so sick. How are you all coping with pain and meds?

I taught adults in the community/vocational college system. It was truly my identity. When the fog got too bad, and two leaves of absence didn't help, I was faced with giving it up too. I went through a year of therapy to help readjust. I am now at the point that my life has just taken a different course, and I can choose to enjoy the "new and now" or continually back paddle to try to get back to where I was. Guess what I chose??

I'm only on two prescription meds: Cymbalta for pain and depression, and Lunesta for sleep. These, plus the occassional handful of advil keep me functioning pretty well. That, plus my "faith from above" and my loving family are what help me get through the day.

I'm a teacher too...20 years. I'm still working, but wondering how long I will be able to pull it off. It's hard to focus, and sometimes the pain is unbearable. Did you find a way to reach out to people? I just joined this group, so I don't really know how to find people who currently post. I hope you are doing well and have found some treatment to help.

Musicmom,

If you go to the "group home page" you will see the latest posts. Most of those are current participating members. We stay fairly steady for the most part, weekends are a little slower, but you can usually find someone online here. We are here for you. HUGS
