Hello my fellow FMS'ers (wow, sounds like a curse lol). My name is Nina. I spewed most of my story out in my profile. I've had this condition since Summer of 2007. I slipped in a bathroom, my feet flew in the air...and boom right on the spine. The hospital said I was fine, and sent me home with Percosets and Cyclobenzeprine for the severe muscle spasms I was having. After taking the meds, my back felt great! I was in the Ha-Ha Hotel, presidential suite! But there was this nagging pain in my leg.

I went to see my internist, and at first he thought it was just tendonitis. "But what about the aching in my joints?" and that's what tipped him off that it had to be something else. I've been fortunate, I'd have to say. My doctors are on point, I got this condition after people have started to accept FMS as a valid condition. I've moved from being bitter and angry to having a little more sense of humor mixed with cynicism. Eh, it helps me get through the day!

Many people I work with probably think I'm faking it (believe me, someone in their twenties does NOT want to walk with a cane - I'm not a pimp!). I'd have to say that's what annoys me the most. Sometimes that makes me doubt my own pains...that's a constant "demon" I struggle with.

Anyway, it's nice to be here - where I know it's not all in my head. Thanks, and keep posting.

Welcome, Nina! If you had a cane, then all you would need is a hat. I alsolutely love your sense of humor. I was also recently diagnosed, in 2007. I also try to have alittle more sense of humor to get me through not only the day, but the month, especially when it comes to my Fibro Fog. I'm so glad to hear that you also have doctors that are on point. Again, welcome and I'm sure you will definately come to learn & teach us new things each day. And believe me, it's not in your head!

Welcome Nina, I agree we all have to try to keep a sene of humor bout ourselves. My kids help with that, they are always helping me laugh at some silly thing I said or did cuz of the Fibro Fog. You can stop struggling with that particular"demon" your pains are very real and not just in your head. Believe me if they were only in my head I would have them removed immediately!!
May the sun bring you new energies by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night ,
May the rain wash away any worries you may have,
And the breeze blow new strength into your being,
And then, all the days of your life,
May you walk gently through the world, and know it’s beauty and yours.

Welcome again Nina!

This is unsen illness and so many people look at us, especially when we finally go out the door made up and dressed in something then a bathrobe, and say" well, you look like your feeling better". So many comments I've received over the years were almost insulting...like "just push yourself". "Excercise", like I wasn't a 3 mile walker everyday and a real go getter before this happened!! Yea, I decided to spend the rest of my life as a miserable human being, with hardly a life!!!! I'm having so much fun I just don't want to get off the rollercoaster.. !

I've learned to be strong within and stopped allowing others try to "help" me with their suggestions. At times I will just tell them to remember the last time they had a bad case of the flu and go jogging, shopping, take care of the kids and go to work!! And that might be just for a few days, try for years!!

In the end...just "forget about it"!!!

You'll get better in how to handle people...just remember YOU know!!

Hey, so take care and go for a jog

!

I learned I can explain until I'm blue in the face and they'd just wouldn't get it!!

I'm not one to wish upon someone...but....(let the reader use discernment) Thanks for reminding me that it really doesn't matter what the "normals" think anyway!

Hello Nina, and welcome. I totally get what you mean when people think that you are faking it. Yea, I spent all of high school in bed and I am the one and only 19 year old who would rather stay at home pretending to be sick than go off to college with my friends!!! Right!

I have learned to have a sense of humor and dont tell anybody, but cynicysm works pretty well sometimes too!

Oh, about that whole "its all in your head" issue, here's some food for thought. I've suggested that I would feel much better if they would just cut my head off and every time I have been told that that wont help, so obviously it isn't in my head!!! Thanks a bunch and welcome again. Feel free to rant, rave, cry, laugh, complain, and vent all you want. That is what we are here for!

much love, soopergirl

a day without laughter is a day wasted.

nina, welcome. everyone here will reassure you, its not all in your head.no one likes to feel miserable, no one likes their career ruined and no one like their lively hood taken from them. we/you did not ask for fms.i was young when i was diagnosed @ age26 in 2005.i will be 30 in march.it took everyhing i had to come to grips with the fact that i no longer could do eveything i use to, i thought oh my god i'm only 26, why is this happening.keep your chin up and try to think positive, always think it could be worse, even though at times its hard to believe it could. in time things will get better.

everyone here is great and very informative also there are many many caring people here, you ever need to talk you can pm me.
