hi there,

I have been reading some of the posts trying to get some ideas of some better pain management, because of the fact of what is happening with the methadone prescriptions. Since I am going to have to obviously change I am trying to come up with something to recommend to my doctor as she is an internist and not a pain mgmt doc. In reading some of your posts, I see alot of you are on Neurontin, I took it for quite a while after a Neurosurgeon put me on it for migraines, but after about 2-3 yrs of being on it my doctor took me off of it because of the suicides being attached to the medication. There were also alot of attempts of suicide and other mental problems as well. I have been on Topamax for my migraines now for over 6 years and it controls them completely. I hope I have helped someone here and if anyone here could give me some suggestions as what medication I can switch to I would appreciate it. My current pain regiment is Methadone 40mg 4x a day, Methadone 10mg. 1x a day, Hydrocodone/Apap 10mg/500mg 4x a day; I also take the Topamax 100mg 1x a day, Flexeril 10mg 1x a day, Lasix 20mg, 2x a day, coumadin 5mg 1x a day, and lunesta 2mg 1x a day. I also have an inhaler for chronic congestion. Hope to hear some suggestions soon. Thank you

Cieside, What works best for me is Oxycontin, I take 20mg, 2 tabs twice a day. That way if I need more than 2 tabs I can take another, and also if I'm having a really good day, usually in summer, I take just one. I'm also on Cymbalta 60mg, 2 caps once a day. I hear Lyrica works well for some of us, but I had an allergic reaction to it. Some of the guys here say it works really well, others get really weird on it. You might try the Fentynl patches. It worked really well for my pain, but no matter how long I tried to get used to it it just made me feel drugged and crazy. Others find it helps a lot. I'm also on Zanaflex as a muscle relaxer. Our bodies are all different. Good luck.

Zanaflex helps me. Neurontin is what I take since I got swelled up with lyrica. I use lidoderm patches. I also found tens unit helps me. Hope your dr finds a good mix for you.
I have dystonia, neuropathy, gerd, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel and other ailments. I enjoy embroidery, music, and reading my Bible and Christian books. I love to bake. I try to be very supportive and positive.
