I just found the site yesterday, and would like to say hello, I have had FM since I was young but only got a diagnosis a year and a half ago. Since my diagnosis I have had some serious personal problems that have caused the FM to take over. The fatigue and depression have made everyday a struggle. Though the pain is what led to my diagnosis, it seems to be controlled pretty well through meds, I am currently taking Lexapro, I am not to happy with it. In the last year I have been on Cymbalta, Effexor, Prozac, & Elavil for the depression, all work on pain, none work for the depression. Also taking Soma and Flexaril for pain. Xanax is a godsend, but currently out and having a hell of a time getting a refill. There are days that I just want to thow all the pills in the trash and say forget it. Oh yeah and the new miracle drug Lyrica knocked me out, it took 2 days to sober up from that stuff. So, if anyone has tried something different, I would love to hear about it, go back to the Dr. in 2 weeks for new meds.

Thank you, I have heard a lot of good things about neurontin. Ultram makes me itch and vomit, I am allergic to all opiates. And I havn't tried Paxil yet. Have already upped the dose on Lexapro, It seems to make my depression worse, or maybe it is just that my life sucks. Anyway thank you again for the welcome.

Welcome dnette!! Depression is a hard one to beat considering all the other things going on. I personally can't take any of the pills you listed due to the vomiting issue. So I quit trying all antidepressants. I was able to take flexiril for my muscle pain and sleep so my dr up my dose on the flexiril to see if it helped my depression and it did. It has antidepressant effects if taken 3 times a day. Most people are unable to take it 3 times a day due to the drowsiness effect but I was the exception. It does not make me drowsy. Another drug on the market is called celexa and my dr gave it to my mother after she lost her husband in September and it seemed to work well for her. She does not have fibro but she was horribly depressed and it worked for her. Just a suggestion. Again welcome to the group.

Hi Dnette and welcome to the group! It might not seem like it now, since you are soo depressed, I know how that is...but there are a lot of very not only wonderful friends here but sooooo much information and 'our little secrets' that we share that help each other out so much! So, please make yourself comfy and stick around. No matter how bad things are for you right now, you just made a very wise decision by joining our group. And, now it's your group too, so get settled and comfy and post away! All of your questions, answers, thoughts, laughs, tears, frustrations, 'venting' and even 'funnies'. As bad as life seems sometimes, we really get on a role around here and make each other laugh. It's good medicine and it helps me...OH BOY...does it ever!!

So, with that being said I hope that somehow, just somehow, we can help you figure out what you might be able to take for your depression. We know how bad it can be sometimes and it's no fun! I'm not a doctor but I'd like to share my 'bouts' with depression. I take 30mg of Imipramine for my depression. Now....that's not normal but neither am I. LOL...Literally! But, my point is that I couldn't take ANY meds that were made for 'depression'. And, I couldn't sleep and the pain and anxiety and all the rest of the stuff that goes along with Fibro. So, my doc put me on the Imipramine (a looooooooooooooooooow dose at 30mg at bedtime because it's an older med for depression, but a side effect is drowsiness. So, the low dose works BIG on my depression and of course I take it at bedtime for sleep! I love it. After Paxil, Prozac, on and on and on...everything made me sick and soo confused at one point I didn't even know my last name! But now, it's better, MUCH better. As Hampton7026, I take 3 Flexeril a day for muscle spasms and pain and JUST learned after reading her post above that it works on depression as well. WOW...I just learned something new!!

Anyhow, it doesn't make me drowsy at all like it does most people. So, maybe one of those could be an option for you as well.

I hope things look up for you soon. I'm glad you found this group!! Welcome, Weclome, WELCOME!!!

welcome to the group Dnette. One of the most frustrating things I think is finding the combination of medications that works for you and can be tolerated by you. Hopefully you have an understanding dr who is willing to work with you to find that combo

Thank you all for the welcome, and the advice. I go back to the Dr in a couple of weeks and hopefully will find something. I have noticed that taking work out of the picture has dramatically lowered my stress level. I am a little concerned about money, but am doing ok right now. The holiday season was more than I could handle, but now that it is over, I am hoping I will start to feel better soon. I feel good today, after a terrible day yesterday, only time will tell.

Again thank you all

Denette
