"My mother is dealing with chronic pain and has fibromyalgia" (worrieddaughter09)

MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

I also have high BP. I have for years. It sometimes takes a long time to find and dose the right medication. My BP varies throughout the day also and depends on my pain level. Even on my medication my BP runs 140/94. I used to get headaches and hear ringing in my ears when my pressure would be HIGH. It is important to have your cholesterol checked also, if you have both hypertension and high cholesterol it increases your chance of stroke or heart attack. My advice is talk with your doctor and maybe make some dosage changes, keep a log of your BP throughout the day to show your doctor. It is really important to get it stabalized in a more normal range. I hope I didnt scare you, I just wanted to share the importance of getting your pressure lower. Best wishes!

Hello Mountainman and welcome again!

Yes, I do deal with HBP and high Cholesterol also.

Before I was dx back in '87 I never had HBP or high Cholesterol but then they dx me with this and CFS. They tried this steroid called Prednsione. Boy, it blew my pressure off the roof and made me look I had cushings disease. The doctor couldn't explain why all this happened but I found out years later it was that steroid. The docs just throw these meds at you and never tell you what they can do to you. Well, I certainly learned to the checking up on a med before I'll start on it.

However, genetically, HBP and HC runs in my family, so I'm sure I gotta double whammy!!!

So, enough rambling, to answer your question in the short version, yes I do!!

P.S. I'd like to get a cuff, but really don't what is the best type

I also have high bp that also started with the fibro plus the anxiety of dealing with the fibro plus other illnesses of pain. I am on meds and for the most part work. It also hurts that I can't exercise like I need to. I plan to try to work on that one.

Spruce, Most BP cuffs are fairly accurate. I know this because I was a Medical Assistant and I had to shop for Cuffs and Stethoscopes. I would'nt spend much money on one. Most pharmacies have electric BP machines that you can do yourself fairly easily, again I would'nt pay more than 50 dollars for one. You can get your pressure checked for free at most grocery stores near the pharmacy and any fire station, Urgent Care facility or Hospital ER will check it for free. I check mine everytime I go to Safeway for groceries. Take care.

Hi there everyone, I am chimming in last too but that is just me..lol I too have High BP and high Cholesterol. I got it from my Dad. Cholesterol is hereditary as well. I am on Toprol XL 150 mg for my BP and pravastatin 40 mg for high Cholest. I was give the prednisone when I was diagnosed in 2000 for Lupus. They had me on it for 2 1/2 yrs so spruce I know what you mean about the weight gain, I get really hot and sweaty while I am on it, I sweat excessivlyas it is just imagine being on the steroid in the summer with my excessive sweating...lol EWE I know. But anyways didn't mean to gross anyone out but, well I have many other health probs as well I get them from my mom and my dad and both had poor health. But anyways I know the BP and cholest. comes from my dad. My mom has low BP. I never had the high BP till I had gotten pregnant though. My BP skyrocketed 160+/111+ and somertimes higher. boy was is scarry when they put me in the hospital and said I may have toximia. I had gained like 60 lb in the first 2 month in just fluid. They had said I will probly have it after my pregnancy as well not that I had it during my pregnancy. Thank God I didn't have toximia though. But the meds they gave me through IV to bring it down made me feel really funny, It was like coming down from the top of a ferris wheel really fast. Well unfortunately I lost my baby in the 6th month. I went from 240 lbs to 175 lbs in 2 days. It was all fluid I was retaining. But the reason I lost my baby was because the Lupus attacked the placenta or so they said but I don't believe them I think it was blood clotting that was left undetected but that is a long story in it's self. But never the less it was about 1 year later I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I kept feeling dizzy and lightheaded, and got alot of headaches. My blood pressure was really high again so they put me on the toprol XL. And let me tell you I can tell if I forgot to take it that day because it shoots up there...lol Anyway there is my long story not so short...lol Hope you all have a great week. Love Sally

Well Pooh,

You sound like you also went thru the ringer! I'm sorry for the lose of your baby...that must have ben almost as difficult as everything else on top of it!

I don't personally feel the fibro caused my HP and HC...it runs in my family big time! I don't doubt that having pain all the time and misery would could certainly contibute to it!

I'm also sorry that your dealing with lupus. I can't remember, but do you also have fibro on top of that? Which came first if that's the case?

Hope today brings you some good minutes ! Notice not hours....I think that sometimes ask to much!

My blood pressure was always more on the low side like 109/70 give or take but recently it has been reading more like 130/80. I hope fibro is why mine has risen. When I saw the cardiologist she was not concerned with it at this point. But I am thinking too that the pain level makes it higher.
