Hello everyone.

I'm as green as green can be. So allow me to introduce myself. My name is Andrew and I hale from Jersey and recently was told be a doctor that I most likely have Fibromyalgia but since it's hard to impossible to test for he couldn't be completely positive, and that he doesn't treat it and didn't know who does. So mostly his worth went from great for colds and flus to absolutely worthless.

So I'm just wondering if someone can tell me if there is something that can help me in my search for a doctor with knowledge in Fibromyalgia. I've done extensive reading and I believe I understand what I need, but getting what I need is going to be a challenge, at least that's what I perceive to be the challenge.

Am I right? Off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and my compliments for this website. What a blessing to have a place to go to for Fibromyalgia.

Akelvin.

Ask your doctor if he would provide a refferal to a pain specialist, then get a list from your insurance company and start calling. Ask if they treat Fibro, ask if they have had a lot of experience with it or if they just accept new patients. You may not have a choice but I personally wouldn't want to be part of a learning curve when it comes to Fibro, you may not have a choice, but there's really no harm in asking. If you don't have a choice you may have to educate some people, but be gentle, and take printed info with you if possible. Doctors asn a rule don't hold much faith in " I heard from some guy online that...."

Oh and welcome, I hope you find what you need here. I'm new too and already feel right at home, these people are wonderful.

Hi akelvin and welcome!!

I found it very difficult to find any doctors that know and treat fibro! I have a neurologist who is a headache specialist that I have been seeing for cluster headaches. When I told them that I now have fibro, they offered to treat me. After months of phone calls, I am blessed to have a doctor that I already knew and trusted. I will tell you that I went to a rheumatologist to be diagnosed, but he wouldn't treat me. What my neurologist told me was that pain management specialists, rheumatologists and neurologists are all unsure which one of them should be treating it. But like everyone else said, make phone calls and find someone who actually knows fibromyalgia if you can, it helps! I wish you luck in your search! And, again, welcome! You've come to a great place to talk, learn and vent!
