Hello and welcome, I'm new this past month too.

As far as friends and family are concerned, don't waste too much time banging your head against the wall trying to get folks to understand.

I am on 11 years now...have lost close relationships with some family members...but on the other side I have come closer to my girlfriends and neighbors.

May 12th is the National Fibromyalgia Awarness Day.

This past May I sent fibro info to about 50 people...family, friends, co workers and more.

I sent a note telling them it was the awareness day I am am doing my part to bring awareness to this illness...I sent it with a fibro pamphlet. Many people were happy I sent them info, and said they had no clue about my life with fibro.

Since then a couple of comericals came out....people pretty much believe things they see on TV...so that helped.

Good Luck...some friends will fall off your friend wagon...some new ones will jump on....don't sweat it!!!!

hugs,

Theresa

Welcome drangonladyalaska you have found the best place to vent, shar , ask quwstions and sometimes laugh at ourselves. There is a wonderful post on here that lists the 50 symptoms of fibro you could just print that out and show them all your symptoms. Maybe then they would understand that yes someone can hurt all the time. Sorry I am little behind on reading the posts its just that the computer is so far from the bed. a big welcome to all the newcomers.

May the sun bring you new energies by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night ,
May the rain wash away any worries you may have,
And the breeze blow new strength into your being,
And then,all the days of your life,
May you walk gently through the world,and know it’s beauty and yours.

Welcome dragonladyalaska! I am new to this site as well but it has helped a ton! I have had fibro for 16yrs and am still learning how to cope. I must say for the most part my friends are understanding. My hubby is wonderful & helps me to keep a balance most of the time. As for what to say to your friends, I agree that you have to take care of yourself. You know your limits and how far you can push them w/out a flare. Sometimes you have to assess if a potential flare is worth it or not. Don't want to miss out on life though either. It's a battle for me...sometimes I shoot myself in the foot because I don't say "no" enough but then when I do I feel lonely cuz my friends are getting together w/out me. Know that you are understood here & nobody will judge you. By the way, I was born in Alaska! I would love to come back some day & see what it is like! Sending you gentle hugs... {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
