MDJunction to me

jayna01"My name is Jayna and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how much MDJunction has meant to me. I always felt so alone before I joined in April of 2012. I felt like there wasn't anyone that really cared about me and what I was going through. I felt like there was no one that would truly listen to me in what I was feeling. Nobody was there for me. That is before I found MDJ!

I have found and met such good people on these forums. I never ever knew there were such compassionate people before MDJ. It's also nice to know that I can come here anytime and get support for what I am feeling. I feel like I have met some wonderful life long friends. It is also an outlet for me to try and help other people that are hurting. It gives me a good feeling inside and gives me self confidence in helping other people.

I hope MDJ will be as good for you as it has been for me! Many Blessings and Much love.

Wink Hello, Glad to have found this site.

I have been suffering with FMS for 9 years but was only diagnosed just over a year ago, the journey to diagnosis was a living hell, but i can tell you here in Canada, since the diagnosis, things have gotten worse for me.

The major shortage of doctor's has left me without a family physician, my internist is on MAT leave, and my endocrinologist (thyroid) won't prescribe my pain meds.

Urgent Care won't precribe them, no walk-in will either. SO, since May, i have had no medication.

There is a major problem with addiction here in Ontario, where i live, so the Doctor's have all become Opiophobic and worse than that, FMSphobic, because they won't even prescribe me anything else admitting they don't have enough knowledge of the disease. Crazy to me because my mother has suffered from FMS and Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years.

So I sit and suffer till i find a doctor to treat me, it's been tough, take loads of Advil and my vitamins, try to exercise everyday, and use my CPAP machine. Sad

I have a support group here that meets every 3rd Monday of the month, but it's not enough for info, so once again, i'm so glad i found this site!

So nice to meet you all!

CiJai

Hi CiJai and welcome to the group. So very sorry you are having so many difficulties. I don't think us Americans that are on this site are used to experiencing the difficulties you guys have with medical care in Canada. Or am I speculating in that arena? If I am please correct me. Even though I think whether you are Canadian or American, it doesn't matter..finding a good doctor is very hard to find; especially when it comes to fibro.

I am one of those really lucky fibro people that have severe sensitivities to meds, so I know what you mean about not taking the pain meds. Give me a shot of Demerol, I am fine. Tell me to take a pain pill, well that another story - I am end up in the ER.

You are definitely in the right spot...you can cry, laugh, vent, whatever...and sure can ask questions. Be sure and utilize the Search field located at the top right of your screen. It's very helpful.

Kay

Thanks KD and TA, i really need the support at this point, i've been so depressed about all of this.

My housework is piling up at a pace i can't keep up with, although i only have 1 wonderful, understanding (but annoyed, i'm sure) 17 year old daughter at home, i have two very naughty shih tzu's, lol

I am staying hopeful and i just checked out the thread on Lyrica, i am thinking i may want to try it.

Oh, and about the Health care in Canada, IT"S A JOKE! really, we don't pay for all of it, (we do pay for some) but we are also TAXED to death and many times have to wait anywhere from 3-12 months for appointments.

My referral to a pain management clinic is coming up, in FEBRUARY! We have to be our own advocates as many doc's are selective on who they choose as their patient, if you are a difficult case, as i am, our APPLICATION for treatment is usually denied. Basically, the systems is terrible and requires changes.

I would agree that it needs changes. Hopefully you will get some changes to the healthcare system soon. Are you close enough to the NY border to cross over for healthcare?? Just an idea. The main thing is to stay warm. Heated mattress pad or electric blankets help alot. Do you use ibuprofen or anything for the pain? There are also all nautural remedies, but you will have to research those. I don't know much about them, but it's worth trying if you can't get meds. And please try to stay positive and not let the depression get ahold of you. I know it's tough as I also fight depression. But just keep talking to us and we will help you through. Especially on your bad days stay on here and talk to us. We might even make you laugh a little.

Oh, poor CiJai! That really sucks. That's all I can tell you. I'm sorry about that. I hate that for you. I know that it sucks. I agree that staying warm is one of the best things you can do. I love anything that will keep me warm! I get so cold all the time, and I hate that. I have Raynaud's Syndrome, and I can't handle it--all my extremeties stay cold pretty much all the time, and that's very difficult, even keeping my feet in snuggly houseshoes doesn't fix the problem! Tongue Oh, well... What can ya do? Anyway, stay warm, welcome here, and vent and fuss all you want! That's what we're here for!! Laughing

*hugs*

Jen

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help. I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Thanks Jen, keeping warm is hard for me lately, at the height of my hyperthyroidism, i was sweating like crazy but my finger's would wrinkle and turn blue from the fibro, i was hot and cold at the same time, but since i had my thyroid ablated, I'm freezing cold constantly, i know what you mean about the slipper's, lol, I've bought 5 pairs this week, too funny!!!!

Hugs

Christine

You can NEVER have too many fuzzy slippers--don't let anyone tell you otherwise!! Tongue

Well, Thomasann beat me to the punch on the border crossing idea, as well as the other pain management techniques. (Great minds...)

Dixie4me was told by an ER doc that (I can't remember this exactly, maybe she can correct me), taking two Tylenol and three Aleve is similar to taking hydrocodone. This might be used as an aide for the pain on a now and then basis, but I would also add milk thistle as a supplement to protect your liver.
