Hi,

I just came across this group and I am excited to find somewhere to get support as well as lend my support to anyone. It is the wee hours of the morning and of course I cannot sleep--something I know a lot of you can relate to.

I suffer from fibro as well as many other pain factors. But like everyone, I have my good days and my bad ones. You know the kind of morning you have when you wake up in so much pain and weakness where you can barely walk and start to cry. You want to throw away the medications and just be normal--that was my morning yesterday (Sunday). But I gave myself permission to rest all day so I am optimistic that today is going to be better

I had heard that use of a tanning bed is good for fibro--has anyone tried it and if so, does it help?

I am currently on Cymbalta for the fibro, amitriptylene to help for sleep and flexeril along with pain meds for my back.

Here's giving gentle hugs to all and hope for a low pain or pain day today.

Gabby

Hi gabby...welcome!! You're gonna love it here!

About the tanning beds...I DO TAN! I try to every other night. It usually doesn't turn out that way...but I try. I live in Seattle, so ya know...rain, damp rain!!

The heat from the tanning bed is awesome and I truly do think it helps me. It just feels soo good and I just lay there and let the heat 'soak in'. I love it! And...get a tan on top of it!!!! I've also noticed that the medium and high pressure beds feel better than the old conventional beds and that's because they're actually 'pushing' the heat (and UV rays) into you! So....that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

Again, welcome and please don't be shy!!

Hi Gabby and welcome!

Ive never heard of tanning beds helping with fibro but it sure makes sense. I can tell you that here in New England right now, its winter and cold and miserable and my fibro is much much worse than in the summer when I sit by my pool in the SUN!!!!!

I may have to look into some tanning sessions around here! Thanks guys!

Gabby,

It is interesting to see you asked a question about tanning beds. I have been using one for two weeks and am amazed at how good I have been feeling. I started feeling good after the third visit. I wondered if it was coincidence but was pretty sure it wasn't since the last couple of months have been unusually bad.

I saw there are several articles about Vitamin D helping fibromyalgia and figure the heat as well as maybe causing the body to produce more Vitamin D could both be the reasons why I am doing better.

I would personally recommend it. I know what you mean about not sleeping. It is after 1 a.m. and I am still awake. I forgot to get my perscription for Ambien refilled.
