I have been dealing with chronic back, pelvic and knee pain for years. I finally found a pelvic pain doctor who was able to get that pain under control and I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. For about a year I was on a combination of elavil and hydroxyzine which has allowed me to function much better. About 3 months ago I had a huge flair up when my whole body started to ache like the flu. Since then I get almost no relief and just wearing a pair of jeans inflames by back and legs. My doctor has since recommended that I see a rheumatoid doctor because he feels I have fibro as well which is common in IC patients.

Since then I have been trying to gather as much information as possible. I was very happy to have located this group!

It is amazing to see that there are other like me who wake up in pain all over.

Hi grtpyrlvr, and welcome to our group.

I'm sorry to hear about your pain, and I hope, for your sake, that it isn't fibro.

Usually, a rheumatologist (different from a rheumatoid doctor?)is the best to properly diagnose and treat Fibromyalgia. I would get to one as soon as possible, so that he can help you manage your pain.

We have a searchbox feature here (upper right corner) that you can type anything into, and it will take you to a page of topics or articles on that subject. It is an invaluble resource for gaining knowledge and information. I hope that you will make use of it.

Meanwhile, we are here to answer questions and to offer guidance and support. Please, make yourself at home here.

Welcome to the group. Sadly, there are a lot of us online, so think how many more are out there that don't know about it, so spreed the word.

I've been up and down so much lately that I never know when I'll even feel like getting on the computer, but I always find good friends here when I do.

Gentle hugs,

Joan

Thank you for all your hello's. I meant a reumotologist (sp). Has anyone found that Physical Therapy has helped your condition? My IC doctor was sending me for pelvic floor therapy and said it might help with some of the back pain? Just curious on your thoughts until I can get in to see the rheomotologist.

Physical therapy hurt me...I was doing it for my neck and shoulder and I would leave in worse pain than I arrived, but that was before I was dx'd. I'd ask first if they're familiar with treating fibro patients before I'd let them touch me again.

Now I'm seeing an osteopath for my PCP. She's a MD with thousands of hours of extra training in muscles & bones. She does these gentle adjustments that have really helped my old injuries and has taught me how to relieve muscle spasms in my rib area, and where to press on my scalp to help with tension headaches.
