MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

I'll start by repeating my "About Me" stuff: I have fibromyalgia, myofacial pain of the lumbar and thorasic and in 1998 had GBS; which has left me with drop foot of the left foot, a weak knee amongst other problems like sensitivity to extreme weather conditions.

I have seen somewhere in the area of 20 or so doctors over the last 3 years and have not found ONE that has given me enough relief to even live a normal life for more than 1 week out of every month. Just like many others I have read about; I had to leave my job a couple years ago and ever since my life gets less and less "functional". My wife is my biggest support and I wouldn't be.... well let's just say she's a great support.

I have so many comments and questions and will get to them over time in this group but for now wanted to just introduce myself and get on "the same page" as a few others maybe.

I guess I should address the Subject I titled: "I'm about to smack a pain doctor!" I am livid in general about doctor's THINKING they know more about my pain than I do. If they could feel my pain for 5 minutes they would change thier freakin tune real fast though I'll tell you that! I feel like I can't even be honest about how much medicine I need being 250 pounds and having taken pain meds for over 3 years (not counting my GBS from 1998). The doctors simply say "You shouldn't need more than 2 of this every 8 hours... you can't be in that much pain." etc... At this point I would exchange 5-10 more years of minimal pain on this earth as opposed to another 60 or so years with the pain I live with now.

I hope to make some friends as well as attacking these and other problems so please comment, question or even tell me off!

Welcome to the forum. My name is Sandi. I think you will find this a welcoming place to discuss your issues. You may make some friends too. Plus, it will be nice to have a male perspective.

Pain doctors, pain clinics...it seems to me that they work for the insurance companies, not their patients. Do you see a rheumatologist?

I'm not familiar with the term GBS...can you elaborate?

Welcome to the group, it's a great place to vent and we all learn so much about this stupid condition from each other--I know I've learned much more here than I have from my PCP.

Welcome and I'm sorry you're in so much pain!

Oh you poor thing. I think it may be even more difficult for a man to have fibromyalgia than for a woman. I agree - doctors really don't know HOW you feel. Fibromyalgia is such a terrible disease. But I think you have found the right place to be. For example, I have been gone for the past couple weeks because I have had a very bad flare-up of fibro. Today I received an E-mail from one of the leaders here at the forum asking me if I am okay, because I have not been on for a while. Now that is true concern and fellowship. Yes, I think you will like it here. We are all kindred spirits. Good luck, and if you need to talk about anything, you can contact me.

Hi nosmoke, and welcome to our group.

You're so right about doctors who think they know our disease better than we do. And I have many times wished they could feel it for a week or so themselves to better understand.

Can I go with you and SW? I know a certain gastroenterologist that could really use a good smacking!

Anyway, please make yourself at home here. We're here for caring and sharing and all kinds of support. Glad you made it!

Hello nosmoke welcome, you will find many kindred spirits here. I want to go with all of you, I know a cardiologist and a Physical Therapist who definitely need a real good smacking. I know what you mean about them telling us how much pain we "should" be in instead of listening to how much we are in. Well that's why we have this place to come to so we can vent about them.

May the sun bring you new energies by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night ,
May the rain wash away any worries you may have,
And the breeze blow new strength into your being,
And then, all the days of your life,
May you walk gently through the world, and know it’s beauty and yours.

I'm meeting a new Neuro this month. The one that has been treating my migraines for 8 years told me 2 years ago during my first severe RA flare (not DX'd yet) that also ruptured a disc in neck and caused massive arm pain told me then to "quit being a baby and suck it up,it's all in your head". Let's all go smack him. LOL. I'm definetly not going back to him now that I have a DX.

Here's my smack. It's not bad...for a girl.

That kind of remark just infuriates me! Good luck with your new neuro.
