MDJunction to me

liamacker"The part of my recovery plan that I would say made up 80% is MDJ. I suffered a lot prior to finding MDJ, felt alone and had no one to talk to who really understood me. In the Bipolar Group I found like minded individuals who I could relate to and who offered support to me when I needed it. As I recovered, I could then offer support to them which gave me a good feeling about myself. I have met some great people here who I would class as good friends and know I would still be in the slump I was in without them. Now I am stable, I know that MDJ plays an important part in keeping me that way. Thank you MDJ for being there for us all and making us no longer feel alone." (liamacker)

Do any of you get itchy from narcotics? I took Vicodin for one day and almost scratched myself to death...I had to take Benadryl in the middle of the night! Today the doc gave me Percocet and I had a little itch for a few hours but not as bad as with the vicodin. I was told by a few people that the itch will go away after a few days. Is this true? The doc said the severe itch and consequent rash from the vicodin was probably an allergic reaction. I hope I can take the Percocet because I need something these days. Going to the gym is tearing me up. If anyone knows about or has experienced the itch factor...please write me back. Thanks friends.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I'm allergic to Dilaudid and sometimes I even get an allergic reaction to my Oxycontin even though I usually don't and Benadryl for me IS THE ANSWER. Every 4-6 hours as needed, two full strength, adult tablets. Should help. I know several people that need to take Benadryl regularly with their pain meds because of allergic reactions (i.e. - the terrible itching - feels like bugs crawling under the skin - yuck!!!)

Thanks wolfpack. I have a new box of Benedryl just in case. I will take it today if I get the itch from the Percocet. The only thing that doesn't bother me is the Darvocet but it's not that effective for pain either.

I get the itchies at night and usually right after my Viocodin kicks in. But it's definitely the worst at night. Good luck and hope that the Benadryl helps.

I itch terrible after Vicodin, the doctor told me I was allergic to it and that I was never to take it again. He said the rash and itch was a sign that I was allergic to it and that my throat could swell shut.

Vicodin makes me sleepy and if I took 2 Benedryls I wouldn't wake up for a week.

I take Percocet regularly. (Average is 2 daily.) If I have to take more, I often end up itching. Then out comes the Benadryl.

Itching by itself is not a sign of an allergic reaction to codeine (or a narcotic); it is a side effect of the medication. But if the itching is accompanied by rashes, hives and/or swelling - STOP taking the medication immediately and contact your doctor. That is a sign of an allergic reaction.

I had an allergic reaction to another type medication. I had hives and my throat began swelling. That is really a scary feeling!Sad

I gave it another try and I took one Percocet today (with a benadryl) and I still have that creeping, burning, itchy skin. I can't stand the feeling so that's it for any med that has the word 'codone' in it's makeup. My rheumy said it's ok if I take more of the Balacet a day so that is what I will do from now on. The only thing with the Balacet is the 'binding' factor. Now I will have to take Stool Softeners too. This is just a medicinal merry-go-round, isn't it? So to the lady that's itching on Ultram....I would say 'call your doctor and see what he/she says about the reaction.

I wish the best for you and hope you find pain relief in some form or another. Maybe try to research other options as well as medications. Chiropractors, warm water, massage and other stuff seems to help some people alot. Just an idea but I hope everything will be ok for you.
