I have been suffering for years, and diagnosed a couple of years ago. I am having such a hard time coping with the changes the fibromyalgia has put upon my life. My anxiety over these limitations makes the pain worse. Has anyone got to the point where they accept that this is how they will feel and live for the rest of their lives? I don't know how to get there. If I lose my hope for an effective treatment or a cure, I feel the stress of the sadness will make my pain- and life- worse. Any suggestions?

Welcome WendyLynn.

For me it depends on the day. Some days it is just the way it is. Other days I am frantically trying to figure out how to have a life again. However, I always have hope that something great will come along to at least make my life a little easier. The trick is having patience until that something great is found.

Never give up hope.

Hi Wendylynn, I don't think I've said Hi to you before this.

I've accepted alot of changes in my life since 2002. I've had a mini stroke, a heart attack, diabetes went uncontrollable, arthritis and now fibro. That's just to mention a few. I won't even get into my back problems. I was taught by my dad at a very early age to shake things off including pain. I don't feel the fibro pain as much as some of the gals and guys here do. I was diagnosed with the fibro a year ago in July but I know I've had it since atleast 1999.

That's when it hit me hard. Stress is a big factor in fibro. If you can learn to let things roll off your back and not fret over everything, it lessens the pain.

Other wise, it's good to keep a good attitude and to laugh alot. Laughing reduces stress.

May your troubles be less, Your blessings be more. And nothing but happiness come through your door!

Hi WendyLynn,

Welcome to the group, its the best one around!

Im the same as Kat, each day is different. One minute i think ive accepted it (usually when having a good day come to think of it) the next i realise that i havent, not really. The bad days are usually the worse, like today Ive been down all day but im hoping tomorrow will be better. Unfortunately thats all we can do. Like Kat says never give up

{{{gentle hugs}}} Emma

"When things go wrong and they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but dont you quit.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
Its when things go wrong when you mustn't quit"

I to find that each day is different. I try everyday when I wake up to take a deep breathe and say I am going to have a good day. If I don't have a good day with pain, I still try to do a little bit. I don't want to spend much time in the bed anymore. Looking back I think I spent about 2 years in bed all together. No more for me. I want a life and I am the only one to make this happen. I always pray that everyone on this site get disability and their lives back.

Thank you so much for your greetings and support. I wish I knew some fibro-jokes! I always have been somewhat of a serious person, but since the fibro I have learned to laugh more. This disease is so ridiculous. I wonder if anyone knows any fibro-jokes?

From what I've read from other people that cope with their fibromyalgia, they somehow juggle both hope for improvement and acceptance that they may live the rest of their lives with none. Quite the dichotomy. Ironic. If I was as sharp as I used to be, I'd certainly think of a joke.

Wendylynn you will fit in just fine here. There are a couple of jokers. The biggest on is MaryBeth. Quick wit! She normally gets things started. Just relax and let it flow.

I think that for the most part I have accepted that my life has changed. But I think that thinking about how "useful" I used to be and how my house was much tidier ect helps me to gain the energy to do a couple of things. so for me I use those thoughts as energy to get a few things done but don't push myself to hard. Also think of this fibro as having made you slow down and appreciate the little things more rather then just flying past them. Take care

Sometimes it's hard to walk, talk, or even know what tomorrow brings. But as long as I have a smile on my face I can give a little bit of sunshine!

Hi Wendylynn. I think for me it depends on the day too. When I'm having good days then I still tend to do too muchand then I pay for it dearly and usually am in bed for a day or two. So far I've been lucky and my fibro is being managed with several meds but I also can't do nearly the things that I use too. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like not to have any pain or aches at all.

Yes, I have a suggestion. Never tell yourself that this is how your life is going to be forever!!! NOT SO! They are constantly studying and coming out with new treatments and ways to go about dealing with certain diseases. FMS is not a pain - death sentence. According to some things I found out about myself recently, I have a long road ahead of me, but there are treatment options for me that I didn't think I had. You don't have to accept the unacceptable any more! And this being permanent is just plain unacceptable to me. I will somehow become well again, if not perfect, then certainly improved. Maybe not by tomorrow, but eventually.

Keep the faith!
