Hello everyone. I hope you are having a good day. Today I went to the pain Dr for the first time, he was quite nice..a breath of fresh air really. He didnt view medicine or pains with labels, he just wanted to know how you feel. I nervous and excited all at once. He wants to get me off the Lyrica and try Limictal because of the weight gain with Lyrica and trust me I dont need any help gaining weight. Also he put me back on Lortab which worked when I first was diagnosed but the drs were not comfortabsle giving a narcotic for fibro pain. I also am going to be doing the injection in your "thoracic joint pain" area -base of neck for my migraines..Has anyone did this? and if it works he'll do a lower one too.

Welcome! I have never heard of Lamictal being used for Fibro, it is an antiseizure med used off label for Bipolar Disorder as a mood stabilizer and I am sure other things as well but I have never heard of things for pain. That is a new one for me. It was the first med I took for Bipolar and it didnt work at all so I changed meds, it def didnt help for pain. I wish you the best of luck. Good luck with the injections as well.

Hello luvbug, I had the same problem with weight gain with lyrica and stopped. I take Lortabs, cymbalta, 800 ibuprofen and it helps alot with my pain, but i have to take all three to get the pain relief. It took a while to get the right mix of meds. I have not heard of lamictal either.
I am not a doctor,my advice is from personal experiences, always contact your Dr. for professional help.

Illnesses- FM, Degenerative disc disease, undifferentiated connective tissue disease, Lupus, spinal stenosis.

Meds- Lortab, plaquinil, Ibuprofen 800, Cymbalta 30mg

Hello luvbug,

Welcome to our group ~~~

I have never taken or even heard of the drug Lamictal however, I do take Lyrica (starting 4th year this month) along with newly (last month) added Cymbalta.

The only injections I have had re: Fibro pain were at the base of my neck and across my shoulders rather than in the area you mentioned. They worked wonders with near immediate (before I left the Rhuemys' office)results and rather than every few months, I have only needed them twice (2 years apart). That is not to say that I don t still have the problem on a daily basis ... I do... just not as debilitating as it was the first time.

I wish you luck with your injections ? Do you know what med they will be injecting ?

Marilyn

lyrica is a anti siezure med also...so if one anti seizure worked the others most likely will too..

But i am glad he changed it appropriatly and hope it works for you because that is all that truly matters... and welcome to the family and we are always here for each other ..keep us posted.. hugs

Hi. Welcome to the group. I've heard of Lamictal and discussed using it with my NP for reflex sympathetic dystrophy I had -- RSD essentially causes a lot of nerve pain which is much different from fibro pain. I haven't heard of it for fibro pain but then different docs think different things might help.

I have had injections, both by my pain doc and by my nurse practitioner. The pain injections given by the pain doc worked and have helped with my headaches. The injections given by my NP were different but also helped with the headaches. Seems odd to me they'd be doing injections in your thoracic region for migraines though. I'd think it would be more in your cervical spine where they'd do those injections. Guess it depends on what is causing your pain. I know from experience that referred pain is a definite possibility.

Good luck with the injections!
