I learned a year ago that my 18 year old daughter and I both have fibromyalgia. She is struggling with the fatigue more than I am but she's a Senior in H.S. and has a lot of pressures on her. I learned last month that I also have lupus. I'm hoping to learn more about Fibromyalgia to help her and I. We are both having speech problems and I want to know is it from the disease or medication we're on?

Hi Alicia, Welcome to our fibro family. I'm so sorry to hear that both you and your daughter have fibro. I know about the fatigue more than the fibro pain. I'd say the speech problem probably came from the fibro. I don't have a problem talking it's just getting the words out of my head to my mouth. I can picture something in my head like a bottle of water but it won't come out my mouth so I say that thing.

You can ask a pharmacist or your doctor if your medication is causing your speech problems. I know that some medicine I'm on has that effect on me.

Good luck to you and again welcome to the family. Everyone here is absolutely great.

May your troubles be less, Your blessings be more. And nothing but happiness come through your door!

Welcome to the group!

I have some speech problems normally, but they increased significantly after I started taking Lyrica. Lyrica relieves my pain, so I put up with it.

I am constantly losing words and feeling so stupid over it. I know the word, I just can't remember it. And yet so often when I talk, all that comes out of my mouth are $100 words instead of the little words that most people can understand. It drives me crazy!

Thanks so much. I did a search over the weekend and found A LOT of info on speech probs with FMS! The way they and you all have described it is EXACTLY what my daughter and I experience! I'm so glad because I was afraid I had a brain tumor or something! I hate the problem because it feels like my mouth can't keep up with my thoughts. No one ever noticed my "stuttering" when the word gets stuck in my mouth and won't come out until last week. My husband said, "It sounds like your tongue quit working and you had to force the word out." I told him that was exactly what happened. I guess I better pray for patience for all who know me! :- My daughter wants to act, so she's very concerned about it. She was in a play Fri night and did fine, but she said it was happening, we just didn't hear it. Thanks again for the responses!

Welcome to the group. It's always a mystery when I open my mouth what will fall out. I lose my train of thought or the word I'm trying to say. Sometimes my brain makes up words, use the wrong words. It's become a game in my family to figure out what Mom is trying to say.

My hubby says they will know if I ever have a stroke as I will talk normal.

Welcome to the group. Sound like you have the same problem a lot of us here have. I can be talking then I cant get the words out. I will stutter and stumble over my words. It happens to me all the time. My dh will ask me what I just said and I wont remember what words just came out of my mouth and when he repeats my words to me, I dont even know what I was trying to say.
