MDJunction to me

aTinaL"To me, Mdjunction comes down to motivation. The support and information I have found here motivated me to take a very proactive stance regarding my illness. This led me to find medication and doctors that are giving me my life back.
More important than even the motivation, though, is the friendship I have found at MDJ. I have made some of the best friends of my entire life right here in this group. Even though most of us have never met, it feels as if we have known each other for years.
If Angels walk among us, and I believe that they do, most of them are here at MDJ.

I have shoulder length medium fine hair. I got a curly perm in early June. It is almost gone from my hair.

Could it be the meds or my thyroid or Fibro.

I m ready to chuck it all and get it cut short .

Any input ? Your thoughts ?

Auntie, my mother in law gets a perm every 6 weeks cause that's all the longer it lasts. If your hair is fine, maybe it doesn't hold a perm as long as someone with thick hair does. Is this your first perm?

Wow, Janilee, every 6 weeks must be expensive ...

My hair is kinda fine according to some but definitely not baby fine .

No, this is not my first perm ever but it is the first one since Fibro or thyroid problems .

I mentioned to this all to the beautician prior to but she didn t think it would be a problem.

My sister has thyroid problems--so do I bur hers is worse--anyway, her hair falls out. When she showers it comes out by the handfulls, that's usually her indication that she needs to get her blood work done again. To my knowledge she has not had trouble with perms, but I will ask her. I don't know when her last perm would have been?? I will check into it. You are right--to expensive to do very often!!

I am nervous to have anything with my hair because of all the medications that I am on. I am afraid it will all fall out. I have been losing some but I have thick hair so you can't tell.

I get a perm 2 to 4 times a year. I'm unable to do my hair (style it) and it doesn't look good really long. So a perm is my best option. I have fine hair. It's thick, but fine. My beautician always uses the same perm on my hair and it is a gentle one. Sometimes it lasts, and other times it doesn't last long. I've never figured out what the reason is. My mother-in-law tells me it's the sign of the moon. You have to look at the Farmers Almanac to determine the best time for haircuts and perms. I'm not sure if she's right? Maybe...?

I know it's kind of expensive. But since I can't style it... well, I'm not spending the money on extra styling products. I've always hoped and guess that it works out even in the money area.

Good luck with the perm thing. Maybe try the Farmers Alamac. Tongue

My salonist told me my hair won't hold a perm anymore because of all the meds I take, but which one it is is anyone's guess. It really bums me because I still love the short afro type style that requires just "picking" throough it and it's done. If I have it short, I still have to curl it and that kills my arms and shoulders. Aha, I have it, short hair underneath and a wig on top. Nobody will ever guess! Laughing

My mother used to give us the "fros" when we were little. Poodle perm or cut is what we called it when I was little. To this day, I refuse to get my hair permed. She scared us for life. LOL. I had shoulder length hair in high school and I just wanted a body perm. My body perm turned out so bad that instead of having body in my hair, My hair rolled up into what we called a weiner curl all around my head above my ears.No matter what we did it wouldn't relax. I was horrified and refused to go to school. So I went to the barber instead with my dad and we had my hair cut off really short. That was the second time he took me to a barber to get my hair cut. He tried cutting my hair when I was in 3rd grade. I went to school and the nun thought she had a new male pupil in class.

I explained that my dad tried to cut it the night before. It grew back.
