Hi Everybody,

I just found your group and am so pleased you exist. I am newly-diagnosed with fibro though the doctors suspect I've had it for years (as do I). I also have COPD, herniated discs in my neck, and several inoperable bone spurs in my neck. I'm only 46 but have been feeling that my life is over because I can't seem to do much of anything any more.

The worst part is I have a 16 year old who doesn't understand at all. She is constantly yelling at me, slamming doors, running out the house because she can't seem to understand how this affects me physically.

I feel terribly guilty yet I know I can't help it. I guess I just wanted to introduce myself to you all and ask if anyone else has been dealing with this, and what advice if any you have? Just sharing your stories with me will help me, I think.

Again, and most importantly, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE and for allowing me to join your group.

Wishing you only the best,

Laserbeam

Hello and welcome to the group!

I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia on Dec 8th so I'm kinda new at this as well. I also have various medical issues including high blood pressure, undersctive thyroid, bi-polar disorder, diabetes and parkinsons disease. Though I deal with the pain of fibro everyday it is the parkinsons that scares me the most. Lately I have been having freezing episodes so my neurologist put me symadine 100mgs twice a day to go along with my other parkinson meds and told me I cannot drive for now. That was a great loss to me. I just try to take it day by day...step by step. Since it bothers me the most I'm usually on the parkinsons disease support group discussion forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter...I am very fortunate in that my family & friends are so understanding, interested (they ask me questions & such) and supportive. Still it is difficult for them to really KNOW what it's all about so I'm blessed to have found MDJunction. Because of my various medical issues I am on several support group sites, and everyone has just been so great!

If you're looking for others who know how you feel...if you're looking for others who understand; who are encouraging, supportive and share a little bit of advice you've come to the right place. I've only been a member of MDJunction since November 17, 2009 and it has already made such a big difference in my life.

Best of luck to you! Look forward to getting to know you!

Many soft hugs!

Kathleen

Thanks, Pixie, and many soft hugs back 'atcha! I just read in a recent issue of Neurology Now that researchers think Parkinson's may be linked to fibro. They speculated that research on Parkinson's will eventually help those of us with fibro, though in your case it sounds like you are dealing with a double (or triple or quadruple) whammy.

I'm so glad you have people who are supportive of you. I think if I had that my life would be immensely better.

Thanks again for your kind reply. I think I will be here a lot!

Hugs to you, Pixie!

Gee, sounds like a typical teenager to me... I doubt it has much to do with you or your situation. They just get that way. Best to just lock them in their room and feed them under the door for a few years. If you dont think that will work threaten to embarass them in public frequently. They REALLY hate that. Tell her to straiten up or you will go to her school, duck your head into her clssroom in front of all her freinds and call her your little baby and remind her that you love her.

I'll bet she'd rather DIE than have that happen.

I plan to save that one for my son when he really pisses me off.

LOL! Thanks for the much-needed laugh, LockMan! I'll bet you're right about her hating that more than much of anything else....I may just do that.

However, I have been known to sing off-key (not intentional)and dance in the grocery store to embarrass her.

Wonderful suggestions, Lockman! I like that you dance in the grocery store, Laserbeam. I'll have to do some of these when I go places with my sons. Problem is is they'll probably do something back to embarrass me even more! LOL They are pretty good at doing stuff like that.

Welcome Laserbeam, I'm glad you found us.

I remember when my daughter turned 16...it's like a switch had been flipped somewhere inside her and my sweet, polite darling daughter turned into a raging monster. I couldn't do anything right and she seemed to hate my guts. She wouldn't talk to me except to complain for a year. Eventually she outgrew it and now she's back to being the same sweet kid I thought I'd raised. She's 28 now.

But if her Dad had been alive when she was 16, she would have been sent to live with him! I love Lockman's suggestions too...I used to threaten my daughter with a new wardrobe. Some sweet little Laura Ashley dresses with sashes to tie in neat little bows...

Good luck. They DO outgrow it. Eventually.

Welcome again,

blessings,

rayn
