I'm new to this support group as well as this website. I stumbled across it while I was on Google.

I'm only 18 years old and was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome around May of this year. I've had symptoms for 2 years though.

I came on here hoping to make friends and find support because it's too hard to go through this on my own. My parents/family try to understand but because they don't have FM they can't really grasp what I'm going through. I've tried to explain it to my friends but they don't seem to have the patience for it. I'm not sure if they truly believe me when I say I can't hang out because I'm in pain or because I'm too tired. It's been a real struggle and I've tried all kinds of alternative methods to relieve the pain but nothing is working. I currently am not on any kind of medicine for it either. I just really want to find others who understand what I'm going through so I don't have to feel like I'm losing my mind. :-/

We understand. Welcome to the group. There's a lot of good advise around here. There's a fair bit of bad advise too but most of that was written by me so it's easy to spot.

Don't let it get you down. It's just a thing.

Welcome to our group ~~~ we re happy you ve found us and hope you like it here.

This is the greatest group to understand what you are going thru and support you thru the roughest of times.

I m sorry your friends don t understand you but I m thinking at their age it would be hard to understand unless (like you) they re living with daily pain and exhaustion .

Maybe you should see your dr. for an official dx and possibly something to help you with the pain etc. that accompanies Fibro .

We re glad you re here and hope you ll stop in often so we may get to know you better.

Marilyn

Hi Lacrymosa and welcome!

This is the best group you can find on the net. Or off the net for that matter. We have a long thread called "young fibromytes" that's exclusively for the under 25s, you may want to post there to get advice from your peers, or you can stick to posting to the whole of the group. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask either on that thread or start a new one.

Again, welcome....I'm glad you found us but sorry you're suffering, especially at such a young age!

Welcome, Lacrymosa! (I love that name! I can tell from your post that you're a smart, funny young woman.I'm a smart, funny middle-aged woman so we should get along fine!)

It's hard for friends to understand that you're really that tired and not just avoiding them - I wish I knew of a magic reply that could help them to "get it". You might ask them to Google "fibromyalgia fatigue" and see what you and they can learn from whatever comes up.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this at your age, but glad that you know what it is and can work with a doctor to find ways to alieve tha pain and tiredness. There are some meds that deal with depression and "nerve pain" - Cymbalta and Savella are two - without painkilling drugs, which they may not give you at your age. I had Chronic Fatigue in my thirties, for about 7 or 8 years - it sounds awful put that way, but it does go away in time, and I was so glad when it was over, it was like being born again! (Physically and spiritually.) It's not for the rest of your life. I still have fibromyalgia, but it's pretty well controlled with Cymbalta. So there's hope for you too; never give up, it can get better with treatment. Jeni

My advice is free, completely anecdotal, and comes from my own experience. Always talk to your doctor before you change anything.
