O.K. this may sound crazy but I have talked to my sleep dr. about it and he says it is something that happens in narcelipsy patients but was wondering if it happens in any other fibro people.

This has happened often but last night was really bad I was dozing off and I can't remember what exactly I was dreaming about but I know I felt like I couldn't breath and in my mind I was thrashing about the bed screaming for my husband to help me but in reality when I woke up I was very startled and it is like I know what is happening and I have to make myself wake up I call it pulling myself out of it but when I do I am in the same position I was in. It is VERY scary and I hate it because it is like it happens when I am in between the sleep and awake stage and I can't move when I first wake up. I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else and if they have found away to avoid it cause I would do anything for it not to happen it is a horrible feeling.

Hey

I know what you mean. I've only had it happen a few times to me but it's scary as all hell! As for what to do about it I have no idea, it has only happened a few times to me so I didn't bother bringing it up with my doc, but I know how you feel none the less. It's like being stuck between your dream and reality. But I know that when I wake up from them the fear is unbelieveably real, and my heart is racing!

Let us know if you find anything out. I hope your sleep doc can help.

Sar

I have started doing that in the past few months. Normally I am a quiet sleeper, in fact I don't snore and hardly move. There have been about 3-4 times here lately that I have done that. In fact I have woke hubby up 3 times screaming, once I was screaming "Daddy".

I didn't think too much about it, but it has my hubby concerned as it is so totally unlike me. I never asociated it with having anything to do with the fibro. Now ya got me wondering.

The thing is when I do this I am not really screaming I really think I am and have even gotten mad at my husband for not helping me cause I honestly thought I was screaming but he says I am not that I am not actuaaly doing anyhtin as far as he can tell and maybe that is why it is so scary because I can't move or scream guess that is why the dr. calls it sleep paralizes. I use to feel like there was something holding me down trying to smother me I even slept with a butcher knife on top of my bed and when I told my then GP she said I was just having anxiety attacks but sleep dr. doesn't think that is it but alot of my sleep symptoms I have been having I have noticed several people on here have the same thing so thought it might be worth seeing if this is another one.

I haven't experienced the delusional type of dream you described, but I have been in a dream state where I can hear what's going on around me (phone ringing, etc.) and can't seem to wake up. Also, when I first started taking Lexapro I began to have extremely strange, vivid dreams. Maybe it is one of your medications?

This sounds like it ay be a side effct to a medication. I know there are some out there now that cause really bizarre behaviour. Maybe you could make a note when you have one of these, and what meds you took that way id you always have them after a certian med you can let your doc know. Hope this helps, I don't remember any of my dreams anymore and am grateful cuz I used to have really horrible nightmares so I can understand how you feel.
May life always bring you laughter.

I have experienced the same thing, in fact I have dreamed I died or was dieing and just recently stopped breathing in my sleep. I would like to blame it on medication but I am not on any but thyroid med.

I also thought it might be meds but when this first started I had just gotten divorced so it was like 13 years ago and I wasn't on ANY medication I was so called "normal" then and when I finally told my doc they said it was anxiety attacks but the sllep dr says it's sleep pralizes and vivid dreams which happens in narcelipsy and hyperinsomnia. I wish it was just a med and I would just stop taking it to never have this happen again. Thanks though and I have started keeping a more detailed sleep journal so maybe I can get to the bottom of it.

I hope you can figure it out a cause. My mom has described these type of dreams and she, too, felt as though she were screaming for my dad to help her.
