Hi Pod and welcome to the group!

I haven't tried it but we just had someone else asking about it the other day. Of course now I don't remember who it was. So it's working for you OK? Any side effects that we should know about? Does it wear off on it's own so you can sleep?

Thanks for bringing it up and once again, welcome to the group. I'm sorry you've got fibro but glad you found us!

I was given Nuvigil for my Narcolepsy. It is a medication used to treat Narcolepsy/Idiopathic Hypersomnia, and Obstructive Sleep Apnea as well as people who work varying shifts and have problems adjusting.

It is a stimulant, a different class than others such as Adderall, and Concerta and the like. If you have heard of Progil, it is a bit more effective in most people according to my doctor, lasts longer.

It is a controlled substance as are other C-IV because like Adderall, Ritalin and other stimulants, it can lead to dependance. I could not take it, because it increases my tremors, I get from my Prograf and I don't like being shaky. Also it can decrease my Prograf level (prograf is one of my immunosupressants) and I am already having problems with my level getting too low.

Also, I was still sleepy while taking the Nuvigil on the 150mg dose and it took two months fighting my insurance to approve it.

P.S. Although I can speak as a patient, and am a nurse and Certified Pharmacy Technician--this info isn't intended as medical advice and is just from personal experienceTongue

I just started NuVigil yesterday, it made me feel a bit jittery on my first 150 dosage. I have 4 sample packs, so I should have a general idea soon if it does really help or not.

I had an initially wonderful response to Nuvigil -- it lifted that horrid fog and exhaustion, and I was SO hopeful that it was gonna be the magic pill for me. Unfortunately, after 2 days, it increased my heart palpitations (I've a history of A-fib, so that's a no-no.)

I've been encouraging others to try this, though -- those of you who don't have heart problems. It might be really helpful!

*hugs*

Hi Kay and welcome! I dont take Nuvigil,my insurance would not approve it,but I take Ritalin. Ritalin helps a little bit,but not as much as I had hoped. I wish my insurance had covered the Nuvigil. I hope it works for you!

So many new people...welcome! Thanks for bringing this up Pod! You may also check with the folks in the Fibro and Chronic Fatigue group. While many are members there, I bet someone with CFS will probably have expeience with the drug as well! Glad to see you with us.

I do not have experience with it. So, I cannot contribute to the discussion. Just wanted to say HI.
