I was sick for about two years before finally getting diganosed with FM. And it only happened through chance. At my doctor's office one day I was getting dressed after the exam and my husband was chatting with the doc in the office. He told the doctor that I was snoring heavily at night, sometimes looking like I was choking and sounding like I was being strangled. Because of this I was sent for a sleep study. In addition to the obstructive sleep apnea I had, they said I had something called "alpha delta sleep" patterns that was commonly found in FM. When I looked up FM, I knew instantly that this was what my problem was. I made an appointment with a rheumatologist (and made sure it was a female, after two years of going to male doctors who all assured me that I was physically fine and probably just needed some psych meds) and was diagnosed almost immediately. Funny how that turned out. I wonder how long it would have taken if not for that chat with my hubby and doctor. |
