O.K. went to the Pain clinic today and had a major melt down right there in the exam room, really not sure why but I think it has something to do with the new dr. See I started going to see a pain specialist about 8 months ago and I loved the dr. there she was a female and was very sympathetic to my pain and fibro. she ran several test and found the problems with my neck and back and my sleep disorder she didn't just tag everything as fibro. like many others had in the past I was hoping she would eventually tell me that I didn't have fibro that it was something else that she would be able to fix but no such luck after all was said and done she told me that she wished she could tell me what I wanted to hear but that she was still convinced it was fibro. So I accepted it after 6 years, unfortunately she changed to a family practice in another county and a new dr has taken her place this was the second time seeing him and he tells me he isn't convinced that it IS fibro because fibro should ONLY be dx'ed if there is NO other reason for you to be in pain and since I have ddd and ruptured disc that I have reason to be in pain. Now don't get me wrong I would LOVE for a dr to tell me for 100% sure I DON'T have fibro. cause then there would be real hope but this doc was wanting to send me to a neuro surg. for a consult about surgery for my neck pain, I had to remind him I had had surgery in dec. for my neck duh and when I started crying for no apparent reason he ignored me and said I seemed anxious and wanted to know why. I was in so much pain in his office is why!! I seem to talk out of my head and ramble when I am in extream pain (can you tell lol SORRY). So he gave me injections and uped my pain meds and sent me out the door crying uncontrolably I felt like shit for breaking down in front of a man no less and just felt like he didn't get me at all so I was just wondering if anyone else experiences this with men dr's and if anyone has melt downs for no apparent reason at the absolute worst times?

HI.... I guess I have a real problem, saying this is Male Dortors Vs Female doctors... If you could come down to Fl and see the Dr I see... You would find it is not a male, female thing....it is just a dr to dr. thing.....Dr Courtney is a wonderful doctor who treats his patients from his heart....... I have seen him take money out of his own pocket to help a patient.... I treats from HIS heart with all that he has...

And as I see it most doctors before they say you have fibro have to rule out everyhing else that might be causing your pain... Dr. want something concrete to treat...symptoms they understand and treatments they can make money on....Also because it use to be said that fibro was the wastebasket disease... because it was the place where all the people that they could not find a reason for there pain in.... were PUT...Had to do something with you..... (meaning anyone with fibro)....

I guess if it was me and I was not happy with this treatment, go to the person who is in charge of the office..... and talk to him or her and tell that person what the problem is, and maybe they can interveen for you and get you where you want to be..... Or you can always go to another Dr..... but there is no telling if it will be an better......

I have been to both male and female Doctors.... MY family Dr is a Female..... and to me she is the next thing to an angel... Her name is Dr. Karen Wunderlich.... She is awesome.......

I hope you the best ...and my prayers are with you....

Craig

I have had some bad experiences with male Drs. finding some to be lacking compassion for the person who sit before them telling them about their problems with this nasty little complaint and watching as their minds wander off to another place because they have branded you a winger, that you'r not really going through pain at all,and that is where my other beef comes in respect they don't have any for the patient and yet they demand that you respect them, you have to earn it first.I'm really, really sorry that you got a jerk like that maybe he will get to experience somthing similar himself oneday,in the meantime I could post some funnel web spiders to him, their really friendly.Keep your spritis up. HI... again..... I am going to say it again..... I don't think It has anything to do with gender..... it is just that individual......

He has no bed side manners... but hey for all that I know some female doctors that have none either..... it is the individual...not the gender....... Yes by percentages we are goin to find more male doctors with bad bed side manners.... .WHY???? because most DR. are male.... just by the pure percentages....... and again I am going to say in my mind it has nothing to do with GENDER..

Fair enough I think part of the problem is when you have found a diamond

it's hard to settle for a piece of coal I guess some of the lack of compassion may be a lack of experience but when faced with that lack of compassion and understanding especially when you think you have the answers and they say you don't well it makes you question everything that youv'e been told before, and yes I know everyone has bad days but what if on his bad day he gets a patient that's teetering on the brink and because he's having such a bad day and misses the signs,What then

woman doctors are up there to but it's the male Drs.when confronted with female paitents who tend to put wverything down to that time of the month or that time of life.

I am sorry I put it that way as far as male vs. fe,ale that was probably the wrong way to poat it I was just so discouraged yesterday with the fact that he said I seemed anxious and when I lost it and started crying uncontrolably he acted like he didn't even see me crying so I guess I was just having a man bashing day sorry again because when I think about it I have had a couple of female dr's that were pretty bad one is the reason I seeked pain management in the first place cause she thought all I needed was to lock myself in the bathroom take a hot bath and relax yea like that worked lol but in general I guess I was just upset cause it seems most my bad experiences have been with men dr's that just seem to think because I am a women it is natural for me to break down and be emotional it's just hormones or I;m being moody cause I am a women. This is just my personal experience sorry if I offended anyone

HI...again... well it might also not be a lack of compassion, it just might be that when you are faced with people coming to you in so much pain, day after day........ that you have to look past it because it can consume you..... I have heard people here at this site, say I have to stop reading the post from time to time because after a while it gets to me,,,, I get so depressed reading about so many people in such pain...... These are people here at this site.......Well here is a person whos total, complete job and training is listening and seeing people in pain and with terrible problems.... most of which this person can do nothing about except to try to treat the symptoms...... which again is a crap shoot.....

Yes there are those out there that have very little compassion..... but maybe a little better understanding of what that doctor sees all day.... NOW lets look at most doctors hours.... I hve a couple of personel friends that are doctors...there day starts at 5am every morning.... Monday thru Sunday.... does not matter if it is a holiday....if they have patients in a hospital.... and most of the time by the time they finish with there office patients and then go do rounds at the hospital.. it is like 9pm at night... and then they still have about 3 hours worth the paper work that the office staff can not do, do to liability........

This is just how I look at my doctors........

Craig..

I have the same issues with Male Dr's...If I can get away from it I will only see female Dr's..I guess because I work with male Dr's all the time and they can be very cold and the bedside manor is not the best. They also don't listen very well and they can be very hard headed. I don't find it that much with women Dr's they can say they have made a mistake or they can take the questions and they don't feel threatened if I know something they don't. They will listen me out and then we do brainstorming and figure out what the next step would be and then go for it.

Most of the doctors i've had are male, and I can say that I tend to get half and half with them. My PCP is great. He's willing to let me try anything I think might help. He always takes the time to explain things to me, making sure I understand what's going on with my body. He's been my PCP for about 15 years and has never indicated that he doesn't believe in fibro. Infact he was the one that told me about trigger points when I had this one persistant spot of pain and gave me the shots needed to get rid it. The doctors I have been to, range from kindly to cold. My insurance only covers one rhumey locally, and I've heard from other fibros that he doesn't beleive in it. I'm not going to go to him needless to say (I was diagnosed by a the rhumey that my insurance covered in my college town).

I think it just depends on the doctor. I have never had a male doctor I don't like but have had female doctors I don't like. I find that most doctors are compassionate, but they don't always show it. Some days they will and some days they wont.
