I have a question that I have presented to the rheum but she kind of blew me off and said it was arthritis. Does anyone know why I have terrible aching around my ribs, especially in the back and around the shoulder blades? It mostly happens during the night. By the time I get up.....of boy, am I sore. The skin on my back actually burns to the touch too. This is besides the regular fibro pain. I have thick memory foam on the bed and it is very slightly elevated as well. I can't find any info on the internet about my problem either. I would appreciate any ideas at all about what is going on with the rib/shoulder blade aching. I could go to the neurologist but I try to avoid him if I can because he sends me to so many other doc's for the answers. Thank you friends.

Katrab,Idon't have any answers either, this happens to me several nights a week. The only way I can sleep is to get up and sit in my recliner with it reclined a little and my feet up. My doc says it,s just another joy fibro has brought into my life,oh yeah and take extra pain pills if that helps.LOL
May life always bring you laughter.

I just assumed that when I hurt like that at night it was because I sit at a desk all day. I try not to "hunch" over the desk as work, but I get so tired sitting up straight all day.

I usually go home and sit with a heating pad on my back for most of the evening.

So if there are others that have the same problem, I am guessing it's not just me sitting with bad posture all day.

Sorry, mcbeth but it is probably fibro finding a new way to make life interesting. How nice if it was just bad posture, huh? That we could fix, oh pooh, another thing we can't fix.
May life always bring you laughter.

i have rib cage pain and it is attributed to the fibro. most of the time it feels like i am wearing a corset that is two sizes to small. sometimes it feels like someone has used me for batting practice and won the batting title. that is when i go to bed and chant, "don't breath and don't move and it won't hurt." and of course take extra pain meds.

good luck

hugs all around

teri

Welp. You answered my question very well. So the rib pain--front and back--is fibro. I'll be damned. I was thinking weird stuff...like I had cancer or something!! This has been going on most nights for several years now. I will take your advice and try reclining and using the hot water bottle. Thank you much.

Just reading this post and I am having back/rib/shoulder pain...it keeps moving all around. I posted my own topic on it in detail. It is driving me nuts now since friday! I too worried and still am about other things wrong.....I hate this sometimes...still not sure about mine - hope it is just fibro rearing its ugly head! Hope you feel better soon too.

I am not a doctor and I don't play one on tv. Look up the symptoms costrochondritis. Inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs. I get it chronically. It is painful. Good luck...

I thought the rib pain was from my bra. I don't wear one in the house anymore just when I go out. Does anyone have really bad back cramps? I just started getting them about a month ago. It happens when I lay on something hard like a Dr's exam table. Also get them up under my rib cage. Is that the fibro or am I wierd?
