I too have severe back pain. I have had surgery, but it still hurts like crazy! My lower back is one of my worst sources of pain. I feel for you and know what you're going through. If you need to talk, I'm here. Also I agree with JamClarks that a heating pad and/or hot bath are some of the best remedies. Good luck!

Or if you have one of those bean bag heating things that you put in the microwave, they work great. I have a couple so I can put in different locations. I got one from a craft fair and made the others, but Wal-Mart sells them too in the pharmacy section too I'm told. Some of my Docs say to use ice. Ice seems to make mine worse though.

Hope you feel better soon!

Pamela {please}

I too have lower back pain. Now the question is what is causing the lower back pain?

Is the pain in the lower back caused by the fibro or perhaps something else?

Fibro alone can cause the lower back pain and for years I thought that was the case and just excepted it as such. later I went to another dr. that decided to do an xray of my lower spine to see if perhaps there might be something there.

To both of our surprise there was. Nothing that an operation could help either. I had Ankylosing Spondylitis. Which meant one day I will walk all bent over and there is nothing they can do for it. It is very painful and the only relief I can get is by bending over or taking pain pills very strong ones too.

You need to check with your dr. and make sure there is no other problems before you give up and just say it is a fibro problem like I did.

I to have SEVERE lower back pain I had a b reast reduction thinking that was the source but no such luck so thought it was fibro for several years and still think that is alot of it but only because I think it makes any problem you have 100x worse but finally got a dr that did an mri and discovered I had degenerative disc disease and a ruptured disc in my lower back dr. said he would do surgery but not till it got worse and not sure I want to being I had surgery on the one in my neck and at times it hurts worse. I also describe it as back labor and at times in will make me literally sick to my stomach the pain is so bad. Biofreeze helps and I agree with the hot pad, hot bath or hot tub gives some relief hope you feel better soon I know how bad back pain can be.

I,too use a heating pad often. In fact, I wear it more than clothes. LOL. Well, it does feel as if I do. Word of warning. Please be careful oh how hot and long you use it. Not long ago, I fell asleep while sitting in my cushy recliner with pad against my back, turned all the way up for 2 hours. Major mistake! I awoke to second degree burns. Now, I never turn it up to high unless I sit timer for 30 mins. Or I turn it to med and leave it on for 2 hours. No burns so far. Another thing I use is "Stop the Pain" lotion. I have tried many ointments, lotions, and creams. Without any noticable pain relief. Stop the Pain cuts my pain level around 30%. So, I always have a bottle near by. Mind you, it stinks to high heaven but I don't care since it helps me. And if I use it before pain becomes severe then I get a bigger percentage of relief. Ice stopped helping me a long time ago. Hope this helped someone and please share with me things that help you.

Those of you who have this sort of pain should really consider checking out this website: www.reiki.org

Have you ever heard of Reiki? It's a form of healing energy. It can be sent long-distance, meaning a Reiki healer can send you the energy just by knowing you and knowing approximately where you are. There are all sorts of things that I could tell you about Reiki, but you can check out the link for yourself if you are interested. Reiki Massages are great, and one lasts me about a month, as opposed to a week with a regular massage. HOWEVER, you need to know if you can tolerate a massage at all, so I suggest you talk to your doctor first. Not all Reikis are MT's, so you may not just be able to get a Reiki Massage. You can see if the site has anyone registered in your area to be able to do a personal, one-on-one healing session. If you are interested, I am a trained Reiki Master and would also be glad to send some Reiki healing to anyone who asks for it. Just send me a PM with your city/state location, and let me know you are interested. I usually send it at night, so it's late before it's sent. But I'll let you know when it's sent, and let you know what to expect after.

It can also be set to repeat, so you may get more than just a one-time benefit from the healing. Anyone who's interested, just let me know. If you think it's a load of whooey, I'm perfectly happy to link you to people whom I've sent healing to for testimonials, OR I'll send to someone here, and you can put up a response after and let everyone else know how you're feeling after, too! Sometimes it takes a day or two to feel a difference. But I swear by it!

And, I'd NEVER, ever consider charging for it, so don't even ask what I charge! LOL

*hugs* Be well,

Jen

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

I have severe lower back pain. It hurts to sit, to stand, to lay...it sucks!

I have a heating pad that's become my best friend. I used to use IcyHot...it kinda works. But it's so greasy and smelly and then I can't use my heating pad if I use that...ugh.

Sindee...you recommended BioFreeze...I did a little research and it sounds like a worthwhile product, if pricey---a 4oz tube ranges from 9 to 10 USD.

Does ice work? I've never heard of that. I've always heard of using warm therapies. Hot showers work for me.

I got a chair massager for work, and...the knock-you-out pain meds can do the trick. But, so far I haven't found any wham-bam method to alleviate it...Think I might give that BioFreeze a try...I'll let ya'll know how it works for me...

Just also like to echo previous sentiments about making sure the fibro isn't masking something worse. If your pain gets markedly worse in one specific area, maybe checking with the rheumy wouldn't be amiss? Be well!
