I was diagnosed about 8 years ago with Fibromyalgia. I have tried most medications. I have also tried many forms of treatment with not a bit of success.

I do not get any moral support from my family, who just thinks that I'm lazy and sleep too much.

It recently occurred to me that this is what the rest of my life is going to be. Pain and Fatigue and more pain. I was successful on receiving SS disability if anyone needs advice for that.

I'm looking for any new treatments that people have found to be helpful. Also, how do you make people understand just how real the pain is? Sorry that my story sounds depressing. I really need someone to talk to that understands. HELP.

Hi Hope,

Welcome to the forum. I am glad that you have found us I'm very sorry to hear you have no family support That has to be so tough!!

You asked, "How do you make people understand just how real the pain is?" It's been my experience that you really can't make another person believe anything...that they've got a "mind block" about. You've been diagnosed for 8 years and have been awarded SS disability. What other proof do they need???!!!

As far as treatments: what meds have you tried and what are you currently taking? You will receive lots of feedback regarding medications. Medications work differently for different people and that seems especially true in treating fibro.

Again, welcome!!! Just jump right in and make yourself at home

Hi Hope. I am sorry also that you don't receive support from your family. I think it took my husband many years to figure out how to be supportive. He started being supportive after a man he works with started talking about his wife having fibro. He must really respect this guy, because he started doing more research and being a heck of a lot more understanding. Just keep living one minute at a time. Good luck!

Welcome Hope, glad to have you here. I have found that people who want to understand are the ones who do. Glad to her you got your disability,I agree with Bkwrm398 what more can you do. Come here where there are people who understand that you are not"lazy" but actually sick.
May life always bring you laughter.

Welcome Hope! You will find so much support here! I am sorry your family doesn't understand. Alot of people do not understand fibro. I am lucky enough to have a family that understands I am sick, even if they don't understand the sickness. You have come to the right place. Stay strong and vent anytime you need to. What did you get your disability based on? Was it strictly the fibro?
