I have not worked since Jan. of 2007 and then it was only for one day because of my pain.

The job I had before that was also ruined by pain and my right foot swelling up so big that I couldn't get a shoe on it and even if I could have the pain was to much.I got fired from that job because I didn;t go into work limping so they assumed I did bring a doctors note with me but it didn't matter.

I will be having knee surgery soon, but I don't know when yet. After I heal from one I have to have the other knee done. This is to prevent arthritis going into my kneecaps. I also have arthritis so bad that I can't stand or walk for long periods of time.

I also have meneires which makes life very difficult because every day I'm very dizzy. Then my IBS makes me feel nauseated almost all the time.

I always feel sick and I'm always in pain.

Not one doctor has told me to sign up for disability.

When I first went to the doc I see now more than a year ago the first thing she said to me is I don;t write out pain meds here and are you looking for disability. This all surprised me because at the time I had no idea what was wrong with me and thought I could be fixed.

I had been complaining to my past doctor for a while but never once asked for pain meds nor disability.

Well now that I don't see myself getting better and I can't even do normal things around the house. I was just wondering where do I start about the disability thing?

Again not one doctor has told me that I should consider disability but yet I have not been able to work in more than a year now and I can't continue living off of 160 dollars a month.

Any advice would be very appriciated.

Just can only make so much monies...If you have the "right att. they should be able to guide you...Ask me a question and I will see if I can help..I just went through it, and am still going through some filling with ssi for my back monies,,Let me know,,Lesley

I know my doctor wont want to help me in my disability claim because when I asked for a handi cap parking space pass she denied me and acted like that was the stupidist thing she had ever heard of.

Like I said I tell my doctors how bad I am and they don't get it.

I fall down all the time because of my knees and I'm getting ready to have surgery on them but yet I don't need a handicap parking space pass.

I guess because I am not elderly any claim I make goes unheard!

I have gone through the disability route. It took two years. I don't think a doctor would ever suggest it to you.

To get started, you must have a doctor or doctors that will be supportive of your claim that you cannot work. You also have to have medical records that document the problems you are having. SS will ask for a copy of your medical records. Expect to be turned down initially, because that is pretty standard. You will need to file for an appeal and a lawyer at that time will be a benefit. They usually will take 25% of back pay if approved; and don't charge anything if you do not prevail. First step is to go to the local SS office and ask for the forms to file for disability.

Good luck.

If your doctor is not supportive, you need a new doctor.

Cadbury,

First you NEED a supportive doctor. Maybe a rhumy. If your doctors are not supportive I would suggest talking to a disability attorney to see what they can do. You can call SS and get the first interview set up and all the paper work started without one. Then is they initially deny you, you can get the attorney. SS will gather all your medical records, work history and decide from there initially. I would not put if off for long because you have to have so many work credits to apply.

Either way, I would get started right away with the paperwork SS will sent you and then get you a good doctor.
