Hello to everyone here - I have tried for so long to get back on to this site! For some or other reason I could not connect..

Anyhoo, what I would like to share with you all, is that I have been to a rheumatologist recently, was prescribed Lyrica, and told not to concern myself about the side effects. With the exception of taking tramacet once a day, a reduced dose of sleeping tablet at night, I have rejected the learned doc's puzzling and almost off-hand advice in favour of accupunture and a more holistic approach to pain management in general.

The pain in my legs/buttocks/hips was halved after the first treatment of accupunture. My shoulders are more stubborn, but I definitely get relief from the treatment. I have been 3 times now, (average once a week) and tomorrow I go again.

I made a conscious decision not to take lyrica. For me, it is the right choice. I am still hurting, but the acceptance of my condition has finally settled in, and I have embraced the possibility of helping myself to heal in a more natural way.

To any of you who would like to brave the needles (!) just make sure that the person wielding them is thoroughly trained in the art of accupuncture.

'With a clear brain I can bear the pain Smile'

I hope this helps some,

much love,

Lilyana.

I'm an Advocate

Lilyana, I'm so happy to see you and even happier that you've found a treatment that you're good with. I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't get on for some reason. If that happens again, maybe try a different browser or two. Some browsers aren't as friendly.

We had someone else recently who was dedicated to acupuncture and they were going to keep us updated, but I havent' seen them lately.

Have you thought about seeing a differently doctor? Someone that will embrace your philosophy and add to it? I'm all for hte holistic approach, and 50% pain reduction is big, but I believe in pushing for complete freedom from pain. Which some of us have achieved lately with a medication called suboxone. Very few side effects and a very tiny dose.

I'm just thinking that if you find a doctor who embraces your philosophy, yet can enhance it with other treatments, you might find even more pain relief.

I'm suppose to have it done again. The Chiropractor isn't pleased with my results they don't seem to go away. Cheerful

Hi Tina, nice to connect again Smile

I'm lucky enough to have found a doctor who is very broad-minded and gifted with a sense of humour - he has studied (and continues to study) natural remedies and accupuncture in China. Looks a bit like a character from Star Trek gone wrong..... I will tell him of this new medication Suboxone when I see him this morning.

Thanks for the advice. And yes, I would dearly love to be Pain Free at some point in my life!

Hi there - I was interested to read that you had stimulation (electric/pulse ?) with your accupuncture.

When I have mine the needles are inserted and turned once - then left for a few minutes and turned (by hand) in the other direction. A few more minutes, and they are removed. Yin and Yang. It briefly is quite a sickening feeling when turned, but then it is done. The last time I went, one needle in a really sore spot was removed, and to my astonishment I saw that it had been bent at an angle from my own muscles.

Bizarre, but there you have it.

Perhaps you should give it another go, and listen to what you body tells you. Sometimes there are too many choices or oppinions offered and not one really focused on? I wish you the best of luck in your treatments and hope you get some relief soon!

Lilyana.

I love accupuncture! It feels so good! I get it with the electric pulse and they also use a heat lamp over me at the same time. It is a heavenly feeling once I leave. If I had a lot of money I would go either once or twice a week. accupuncture is the BEST!

You are so lucky to call it a heavenly feeling! Even though it has helped me a bit, it has not always been a pleasant experience - in fact, yesterday I had the worst ever - I cried because it hurt so much. My sister says that it should not hurt at all as she has had good experiences, and others say it affects people differently.

I felt quite traumatised by it actually.

I don't know what to think anymore.
