I don't think I was depressed, no more than normally when I hurt so badly that I don't want to move because that makes it worse. Yesterday afternoon I took my daughter grocery shopping, she can't drive bacause of seizures, and overdid it a little walking through the store with her. I also did some shopping of my own. After I had got home and cooked something to eat I was ready for bed. But I do think cleaning up helped me enough so I could at least face the world.

I can relate to the shower thing. I like to get in the shower because it is warm (seems like I am always cold). However, getting out requires more energy than I ever have. I have to dry off, put something on and comb through my hair. By the time all of that is done, I a ready to get back into bed.

Even brushing my teeth is difficult. I have an electric toothbrush with a two-minute timer. Lately I can't go for the whole two minutes because my arm hurts. How pathetic is that?

I should make an effort to look nice when I go out; I sell jewelry on the side and how I look impacts my business. Lately though I am so tired and achey I just don't care. Sweat pant and an old t-shirt are fine. As soon as I get home it is back into my jammies.

I am proud today though. I clipped my hair back after combing it. Then I put on a nice pair of sweat pants and a bra and a nice top. So I feel like I got dressed even though it is still very casual. I don't look like a model anymore but I guess that is okay.

Sometimes I get depressed because I remember how I used to look. Now I feel fat and dumpy. So even if it is just a pretty pair of pajamas, looking nice definitely helps you feel better.

Kat I so understand about brushing your teeth. I have a Sonicare toothbrush that also has a 2 minute timer. It kills my shoulders to stand with my arm up that long. I switch hands, I lean on the counter, I even think if I sit on the toilet it will help Some days I make it 2 minutes other days I don't. It's the longest 2 minutes of my life.

The showers are the hardest part. My hubby laughs at me for all the noises coming out of me in the bathroom.

After leaning up against the shower wall and washing my hair and body, I get out (twice I fell out) of the shower and dry myself off to the best of my ability. Then I put my hair up in a towel and leave it there while I try to put clean underwear on without falling back into the shower. My left leg is the one that gives me so much trouble. I can't bend it like I can bend the right one.

After getting all my under clothes on and getting my house coast on , I then take my hair out of the towel and dry it a bit.

Then I lean up against the wall with my left side and dry my hair with my right arm. When I put on make up, my right leg is resting on the toilet seat and my left arm is braced on the mirror with the rest of my body half sitting on the counter top. After I get comfortable, I then put on eyebrows and eyelashes only. I look like Alice Cooper after I'm done so I wipe away the excess with q-tips and Oil of Olay. After making myself beautiful for no one, I go lay down and take a nap. I'm glad I have a little bathroom. There's always a wall within reach.

OMG Janilee, have you been watching me in the bathroom? That sounds exactly like me. I thought for sure I was the only person in the world that has trouble putting on their underwear. I can't get my leg far enough off the floor, so I have to try and flip my panties and hook my foot. Then I get them hung up in the arch. I'm standing there ranking and pulling them and my foot is flopping in the wind and the blasted underwear is not coming unhooked from my foot.

Now I could sit on the toilet but I I'm afraid that once I get down I wo't have the strength to get myself up again.

It's the simple things in life that mess me up the most.

LMAO mcbeth, mine gets caught on my little toe. I can't do anything with the little toe not even move it. My hubby just got us a new toilet after the one in there stopped working. I made him get a 17" high one. The perfect height so you don't need any help getting off of it. Now I just put my drawers on the floor, insert both feet, raise both legs up a bit and grab onto them drawers to pull them up. If I didn't do it that way, I'd be hopping all over the bathroom.

I'd be interested in how everyone gets their socks on without the help of your kids or hubby. Again, the left leg doesn't bend much and that's the one I have trouble with.

Jan,

What are socks? LOL, I have to wear slip on shoes and only on really cold days do I wear socks. Then I have to have help. I am so stiff socks are hard for me.

I am oddly relieved others have this much trouble with showers too. I was thinking I was the only one.

I don't take showers. I just go around stinking all day long!

Seriously, though, I prefer baths, and I am still able to get out of the tub unassisted. I have extremely dry hair and only have to wash it once or twice a week, which I do at the kitchen sink, leaning on the counter for support.

For those of you who use showers, have you ever tried the chairs for use in the bathtub, along with shower heads attached to long hoses? You can sit in the tub or shower and direct the water spray anywhere on your body, just when you need it. Most standard shower heads can be converted to this type. The chairs can be found at most places that provide equipment for the elderly, those convalesing after surgery, and the disabled. They have this setup at the workout center I go to, in the family changing areas, and they are wonderful.

Hipmamma, lmao. I try to take a shower every day cause I sweat so much during the night. I had thought about the chair in the tub but I kinda like to stand up and take a shower. ALso I'd have to put it somewhere when my husband takes a shower and I don't have storage here at all. I'd love to have one of those shower tubs, can't remember what they are called, you just step into them and sit on the built in seat. if you want a bath, just make sure the little door is closed tight and fill the tub. If you want a shower, just turn on the shower. I saw one at the home and garden show in Ft Wayne last year. That is something that I'd really like to have.

ksdmjd.. I don't even like shoes. I wear the socks (no shoes) in the winter time but in the summer, its hard to get me into a pair of shoes. I just bought a pair of sketchers what were on sale. They are the slip ons with no back to them and boy are they nice walking in. They even stretch when my feet swell up. Other than that, I wear the sandals. I think my true dislike for shoes or anything on me feet comes from very early childhood. I layed wrong in the womb and my toes were up against my shin bones when I was born. I had to wear braces for quite a while to get my feet where they were supposed to be.

To all Mother's out there, Happy Mothers day free from pain.
