Why wear a ribbon?

MDJunction to me

"All I can say is that this has been the best place ever. It has been six to seven months since I joined, and I have learned so much. I now believe in myself and accept myself on a completely different level. The people on MDJunction has been so supportive and accepting that I have been able to adopt it into my personal life. That has reduced a lot of stress in my life. Thanks to all." (bunnyfly)

I was reading some of the other posts and I want to issue a challenge. One of the hardest things for me to do is to take the first step. The first step for me is to take a shower. I don't think many people understand how hard taking a shower can be for people with fibro. It always feels better afterwards, and if you want you can put on clean crappy pj's after.

All I ask is that you take a shower and take one step in taking care of yourself.

I need the encouragement of other people to keep going, so I hope others will join in here.

I'm worn out after a shower and drying my hair kills my shoulders.

I work full time so I have to take the shower every day.

But I no longer wear make up, just can't stand to have my arms up any longer.

Be wise and dignified like the swan: he maintains his composure, staying unruffled on the surface, while always paddling like crazy underneath.

I also have problems with the work of getting naked and cold. It is very frustrating. I don't wear makeup any longer either. I also work, and it forces me to do things I don't want to do.

AndI used to love taking a hot shower, now the hot water hurts my skin.

You saying that you work and it forces you to do things you don't want to do...the first thing that came to mind was being polite to people. I'm not joking on that either. Somedays it is all I can do to not snap answering the phone or tell someone to just go away. I notice on days like that, I'm physically tired, like it has taken all my strengh and energy to stay in control.

I understand that one! I work at the customer service desk. I have come to the realization that in order to be nice to people I just have to treat them like I do a small child. Speak slowly, softly and firmly. Smile and praise a lot, and be precise.

I agree it takes all our energy to remain calm. Since I quit smoking I stopped taking breaks. I started flaring and made myself take breaks. Breathe, break, stretch and drink water. Those are what get me through the day. And a diet coke or ten.

And here I thought I was the only one having problems taking a shower. And yes, it is a big fight within myself but I think presents me with a BIGGER challenge to do it, as I don't work, don't leave the house but maybe once per week, so nobody 'see's' me per say! I 'try' to take care of everything else I can think of, before I will take care of myself. Ok, I think I WILL take your challenge today.........AFTER I putz in the dirt and garden! See? I'm stalling already!

Aww mom, do I have to?!!! LOL

I know what you mean Tuffy, I don't work either, and I don't leave the house, hubby is away at work, so you can just imagine, can't you?

I do what I can around here, but, when it comes to me...well, you all know how it is.

And about the not being polite to people, I am not a people person anymore. Kids, and grandkids excluded, but, beware telephoning me, and ringing my doorbell.

I feel very much the same way. I have to force myself to shower before chruch on Sundays, if I'm going. I'm so tired and showering is hard and really hurts my arms and head. I can't close my eyes to rinse without getting dizzy enough to feel as though I'm going to fall. I make excuses too. You and I will hag in there and maybe the excuses will become less as the research for better treatment catches up.

I am on the same page on the shower thing. I did all I could to avoid it all together. To try to muster up the energy was imposible, since I burned up all I had left thinking about it. I also never reallyleft the house so the only that would see me are the kids (and could care less) and my hubby, and he never said anything. Since I started going to the gym 3 times a week, I have to take a shower right away. Then I end up doing my hair and make up. Then I am ready for a nap after. LOL

No really, I do feel better and do more during the day. So, I accept your challenge.....Lets go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm right there with you DoDo... And yet when I worked, I was all about the nice hair, the make up fully applied, and then off to work by 6:15am. Now? ha....don't mean to sound gross, but its now once or twice a week for the shower. I'll pull out my book of excuses looking for the one that fits best before I have to think of that water hitting my head. And now that the weather is getting warm, I don't know about anybody else but I sweat PROFUSELY and a hot shower is the last thing I want to think about! Oh Bother, as Eeyore would say. For all you working members out there...I give you one big salute for not only working each day...not that you want to, but for getting up each day, taking this challenge and then having to be 'nice' all day You all deserve a round of applause!!!!

Oh forgot to add...hey DoDo...the phone and doorbell are easy fixes...CALLER ID and HIDE BEHIND THE DRAPES... works great for me...he he he he
