Hi all. What do you do to cope so that you can do the things you want or need to do? I came to the conclusion a long time ago, that I would not let my pain control my life. I still take pain meds, they don't always help, and I choose carefully what I do so that I can achieve my goals. Meaning I am not climbing mountains, my basement stairs are enough.

Anyway, how do you talk yourself through your pain, or do you? I have a friend that sits on her couch day in and day out, and before anyone jumps in and says I don't know her pain, I can tell you she isn't in pain. She is afraid she will be in pain. (We have had this discussion.) This is such a debilitating illness, partly because it causes us to live in fear of what could be if...if I go for a walk, my ankles, knees and everything else will hurt....

I'm just talking here........

Course, I don't know what my point was.

If you find it let me know.

I would like to read how others cope too.

I keep it all inside. I don't really have anyone that I can say "Gee I realy hurt today". Say it to DH and he will always hurt more. I feel that it is a contest to see who can hurt the worse, so I keep my mouth shut.

That is not a good way to deal with it and I know it isn't the right way, if there is a right way.

I looked all over my desk for "your point" but didn't find it here, maybe you left it in the same place I lost my mind.

Be wise and dignified like the swan: he maintains his composure, staying unruffled on the surface, while always paddling like crazy underneath.

I am still trying to find a way to cope, still have not found one either, but what I am finding is that I try to do things with my friends as much as I can. I too would sit in bed day in and day out and found that I was in more pain from not moving. So I got out of bed and out of the house every day and, although I am still in pain, it is not nearly as bad.

I don't know if that will help or not, but it is worht a try.

I found my point! I guess what I am asking is how do you cope with the fear of "what if" I know that we all deal with that to one extent or another. I mean, we conserve our strength and energy for when we really need it...it is a fear of running out of energy and strength. Am I making myself clearer or more confusing...LOL?
