We have alot of talented and giving people on this forum. One great example being Amy's Ribbons!! One thing I have found is that if I get myself involved in a craft, no matter how big or small, easy or hard, it helps to get my mind off of how I may be feeling, & gives me that sense of life!!

My DH bought me a bag of good topsoil, those small black plastic containers, & a bunch of seed packets. I sat for a good 3 hrs, filling the tiny pots with dirt, watered them all and then planted a seed in each section. For me, I got to "play in the dirt" (I LOVE that), & planting those little seeds? When they germinate in a couple weeks, it is a new sign of life. We can coddle & nurse these once lifeless seeds into a brand new plant. Once it grows up a bit, then I can add it to my 4x16' veggie garden my DH built for me to 'tinker' in!

And then what about all those animals in shelters waiting for new owners? (Thanks twin sis..U got me thinking..) Anybody have those odds and end pcs of material U don't know what to do with? I have alot of leftover's that I can't find a use for! Make up 'scarves' for all the animals to wear at the shelters!! Cut the material into a 'triangle'...but make the tie up part a bit longer to fit around their necks. My dog 'babysitter' always sends my 'kids' home with a new & different patterned scarf. It's like they KNOW they have something pretty on, & prance around us being so excited like their saying..Look at me..I'm puuurrddyy! Both of these crafts would be easy for all of us to do, and it serves double duty! Why can't we muster up just a little bit of energy, sit on the couch or at the table & instead of worrying and 'fretting' about ourselves, we occupy our minds with crafts!

What does everybody think??? And if you have a simple craft, lets post it here, teach each other and have a good feeling doing it!!

I look forward to hearing from all of you. I'm now going to go out into the yard and 'make it look pretty'!!! Remember the sun is good for us and helps the mood tremendously! Unless of course it is snowing like it did in Nebraska last week!

Well Tuffy, now I will have to stop and do something thinkin on this.

If any of you are out in your yards on these nice days, please check for ticks when you get inside. I was out in the yard yesterday and got on on my shoulder. He was starting to dig when I got him off. I think I got his little head, the spot was sort of sore for while.

There is a man from here that is at Mayo right now from a tick bite, he is not expected to live.

These little buggers are mean and nasty. Please be careful and check yourself, we don't need any of us getting sicker.

Well, I am not a very "crafty" person because I have a low frustration tolerance and get stressed when I make mistakes or projects don't come out like I had thought they should. Knitting used to make me tear my hair out, and I could not understand those complicated instructions in the booklets unless someone was right there to help me! Same with counted crosstitch, and that was when my eyes were still good and my fingers and hands would do what I told them to do without screaming back at me! I am all thumbs when it comes to doing crafts..... I admire those who are able, because you always have something beautiful to show for your time and effort, and if you have the ability and patience to finish the projects, it can be tremendously therapeutic and rewarding.

I do have other hobbies that I enjoy that take my mind off my problems...like coming online here and some other websites, my favorite hobby!(and obsession....) And, I love to read just about any kind of book. I can become totally caught up in page-turner mysteries and have a hard time putting them down. Gets me out of my head. Love to learn new things....I write blogs on another website, I love to be outside going for short hikes when I am able, with my kids or alone, and just recently I have taken up doing the New York Times crossword puzzles, which I never before did in my life, but I've found that these REALLY challenge my fibro fog and keep my mind occupied and off of depressing worries....like pain, money, uncaring doctors, fickle friends who have hurt my feelings or abandoned me, running out of meds, etc. My cats....I consider them a "hobby" as well, and they appreciate all of the extra pampering and TLC I now have the time to give them. I adopted a stray female cat recently...but have not yet made a scarf for her!

McBeth, thanks for the reminder about the tics...I live in a wooded area and this is always a concern. Also, we need to watch for poison ivy and oak in the summer outdoor season, as those can be miserable as well. And use a mild sunscreen if we are going to be out in the hot sun for any length of time. I know so many people who have had skin cancers. We need some sun without using the sunscreen so we can synthesize enough Vitamin D, which many of us are deficient in, but we can get that in about 20 minutes a day of outdoor sun exposure.

I hate using sunscreen and I am extremely fair skinned, so this is a reminder to me as well!

Everyone please have a relaxing and enjoyable and SAFE spring and summer!

OMG Sis- he's not expected to live????? From a Tick???? I don't mean to sound like a 'city girl' here. I have now owned 3 homes that were out in the 'country' with heavy woods...especially with my current home....& not to seem stupid but ""What does a 'tick' look like?? ""??? I have never seen one! And do you 'feel' them when they are on you????? I've always been told to look for ticks on my 3 dogs, but never thought of checking myself!!! Oooo, yuck!!

Thank you VERY much for this advice, as I never thought about that. I have enough trouble swatting the bees that swarm around me. When we first moved into this house, my DH was drilling into the Mstr Bdrm wood floor to run cable wires up from the basement. He had a big long drill and when he pulled it "Up and Out" of the hole, he got 'attacked' by about 100 bees or wasps..whatever they are called. Anyway, he came screaming and running out to me and he got bit about 10 times. So, I am really weary around those pesky things. Ooo, creapy crawlers! Thanks for the advice again Sis....I will heed that knowledge!

Hi there,

I'm not very good at crafty stuff either. My hands shake from meds and I'm often just too tired to do much more than read or talk. But there is one thing I love to do that takes my mind off of fibro, its RPing (role-playing). Getting together and playing the "Great" wizard, or a little skeaming sneak-thief, or just a happless office chick trying to survive in a world full of zombies helps get me out of my body and life. I get together with my friends every weekend to play various types of RP games and it really helps take my mind off of my pain and problems.

I agree with the hobby thing. I am an artist and may have some problems on bad pain days, but it is a great distractor. Painting is sooooooo relaxing.

I recommend any hobby to take your mind off the pain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tick

If you scroll down to the picture of the tick by the match head, that looks like the one on me.

The one that was on me was more a medium size, I seen smaller and larger. If you get out a $1.00 dollar bill and look at the front sie of it. On the right side of geroges face right underneath the serial number it says "Washington, D.C." The tick that was on me was abut the size of that "C". When they attached themselves to you they secrete and enzyme that thins your blood, thatis what they feed on. I guess he was starting to do that, because I started to itch and just thought I had a bite. When I scratched, I could get my nail under his body, and I knew I had one. Sometimes when they are moving on your body you might feel a lite tickle/itch or it may feel like a hair brushed you arm or leg.

The man here got one in his navel I think. He didn't realize it until it was getting red and sore and real itchy. He got the tick out and everything was fine. Then he started getting sick and they thought it was Lyme's Disease. I don't know if his body had a reaction to the enzyme the ticks has, or if it had some other disease. It caused a boil like tumor on his pancrease. While he was feeling better this tumor would form some type of a scab like covering. He he felts good enough to get out and work, his movement would cause this scab covering to crack, release all the infection it was holding into his body and he would get sick again. This has been going on for the past several months. Feel better then feel worse. I not sure how he ended up at Mayo. But his family said the doctors say it came from the tick bite. Now it has gone to other parts of his body and I think into his brain. We were told they hadn't seen anything like that and are not sure how to treat it.

I agree with the crafts, gardening, painting and/or reading to take your mind off of everything that is going on with us. One thing that I found that might help some of you. If you have like a hot glue gun or you can get the special craft glue. Any way you get some material, it can be anything from old sheets, clothes or just left over material, you can glue it on your cane to make it more feminin or just look better. Or Even your walkers or wheelchair, take the material and glue and put it on the arms of a wheelchair or on the front of a walker. If you do it to a walker then let some lean down over the top bar then fold that up glue the sides to make a carrier for your walker. You can also do that on the side of wheelchair from the arm rest. That is something easy and you do not have to sew just glue. Design it anyway you want. I hope that this helps someone.

Also on the ticks, you also have to watch for mesquitoes and snacks. I know out here on the farm we have alot of all three.

I hope that everyone got your ribbons. Some of them was mailed out today. I am glad that there is someone else making the ribbons.

{{Soft & Gentle Hugs}} to you all

Angelbooze, my cure for everything is either duct tape or hot glue. Trouble is last time I used the hot glue gun, hubby took it away from me. I glued the wreath I was working on to my thigh.

I don't think it got moved to this house either.
