mesafoxx, I'm on Fentynal 12mcg Transderm patch. I have read some bad things about this drug. One lady even stopped by my profile to let me know she hates this drug, so I sent her a PM asking if there is something I should know. I do have allot of itching where the patch is and I wonder if I can keep myself from itching while I'm asleep! I know one person on here was allergic to the adhesive and it caused welts and itching. I hope I'm not allergic to it!

I do want to increase my dose a little, but if I keep feeling like I need to increase my dose I will ask to be put on something different. I was so scared when I read about this patch on the net because of related deaths, but luckily I'm not on the gel so that makes me feel a little better.

I read on one site that this lady fell asleep and her baby got into the trash and died because he found her patch. I keep them at my moms and change them there because I don't want to risk my kids finding them! I did tell them though that in case it falls off and they find it to not touch it and I showed hem what it looks like and told them it will kill them if they pick it up.They were so scared that they didn't want me to put it on! I told them that I'm a big person so it wont kill me, but they are to small to touch it!

I hope you find something that works for you and if you think this might help I would ask my doctor about it. I have heard that most doctors are reluctant to write this out, I know my GP wont prescribe them. Do you go to a pain clinic?

Fletch, I'll keep you updated and I really hope that this works well for me! Thank you for being so supportive! I know your the guy to go to if I have questions about the patch! I'm glad they finally got you on something that helps and doesn't cause you any bad side effects!

Hi... well I also "HATE" this drug.... I think it is a very dangerous drug.... and it has to be carefully monitored..(spelling) you as the patient may not see the problems... when they occure... so hopefully you have someone with you that can keep a watchful eye on you... If I were you I would keep a journel everyday on how you are feeling and anything that is going on with you from how you eat to your BM's Constipation is a big problem with this drug.........

write your pain levels every day.....and how that goes with your changing of your patches..... write down how you feel.... mentally... physically..... so you can see later, and maybe someone else can also see if something were to be going not so right......

But if it works for you ..... again...wonderful.... it is hard to find something that works.......

Again... I would rather alarm you than not say anything and have something happen...so forgive me if I have alarmed you..... but I just want you to be healthy and safe......and most of all PAIN FREE...

Craig

Cathy I really hope that your doctor gives you what you need. I'm praying for you! I often thought about writing letters myself to tell doctors whats going on with me.Sometimes it's so much better to explain ourselves through letters as well.

Let us know how it goes for you.

foxyroxy, let us know how things go, and I would definantly give the doctor a call. From what I have read the point of this medicine is to have a constant flow of meds so we don't have to go into pain.

Hi ya all!

For me the patch worked very well. As far the danger or problems that can occur, I feel (IMHO) they're are risks with so many drugs that if we read all the side affects and drug info on them we wouldn't take anything. If your getting pain relief and keep it away from others (like any drug) things should go well.

Now, I did get some irritation around the patch site but not enough to make to much difference and it usually was happening by the time I was ready to change it.

I would be very careful in not ruining a patch and have to use another. That happened to me when I was first on them. I messed up 2 patches and by the end of the month I was short. I couldn't get anymore until a certain date and went thru withdrawal....THAT was a nightmare!!.

Now though when the doctor or yourself want to get off the patch it can be done gradually and I did that twice. There was no problems with doing it slowly. I just had to get use to the body pain again and let myself accept that's how I'll feel because of the fibro. I now use just darvocetts which get me thru. I'll have my real bad days with the pain but I just endure it to the best of my ability!

I don't know if any thing I've said helps anyone but if it does, good!

You guys try to have a good weekend!

The patch has helped my neck and upper back pain allot, but my legs and knees are still killing me. I wish I had something that would cut this pain right out. I'm not sure but I think I'm allergic to darvocet. I'm allergic to codiene so I can't take Tylenol-3 or anything like that.I can however take semi synthetic codiene which is things like Hydrocodone, which I know this medicine helps with my knee pain, but I have only had it prescribed to me for UTI pain in the past. My legs hurt terribly everyday.

I just wish that doctors were more like the corts, inoccent until proven guilty. I say this because doctors make us feel like drug seekers so much. It's reallyn not right that because I'm 27 and on mediciad that I be judged as another junkie or treated like I might abuse my medication.

Honestly I could have pain medication all day long if that was my goal. I could get it for free from all the elderly people that live by me and see me in pain and beg me to take their pain meds, but I always say no. Why do I say no, because if I were to take a medication that was not prescribed to me then I would be just as bad as a drug addict in my opinion.

Also this patch is causig me to itch terribly. I have never had this reaction from pain meds in the past. I got up this morning and my stomach was itching terribly and my hands were shaking. It itches so bad where I have the patch that I find myslef reaching to take it off without thinking. The patch is already dried up and not sticking to me at all and I don't get to put another one on until tomarrow. This patch is such a pain in the butt and is not really helping me that much. My pain is a 9 today.

I want to cut my legs off they hurt so bad!

Hi Cadburry!

If your itching all over it does sound like your having a reaction to the drug. I'd talk to the doctor about it.

I also had problems with the patch staying on. If you decide (along with your doc) that you will stay on the patch, you can get a thing from the pharmacist that is used specifically for the patch that goes over it. I used a tape that's used for putting on sterile gauze. It's kinda clear and is about 1" wide.

If your allergic to codeine that doesn't mean you will have that reaction to darvocetts. My sister reacts to codeine or vicodin but can take darvocetts. Darvs are a different chemical.

I just want to encourage you to remember that unless we're drugged so bad we're unconcious, that the regular pain meds we take will just take off the intensity of the pain. The pain never really goes completley away unless you go into some sort of 'remission' with the fibro. It's a tough thing to deal with, but we have to adjust to this, that this is now our lives. Hopefully they will find out what causes this illness and be able to REALLY treat it!!

Hang in there Cadburry! It takes time to adjust to all of this. I can relate to your misery!!

Any time you need to vent or talk, I along with everyone are here for you!

Spruce

P.S. Are you dealing with other problems that cause you pain (besides knee)?

cadburry....I am soooo sorry! I was really hoping these would help. I ended up changing mine about 6 hours early but I an feeling better now. They seem to help me within the hour. I do notice that I get naseated from them and dont feel like eating that much. (today I have been pigging out though) But I can deal with that. I can stand to use a few more pounds.

I am confused as to why they drug test you. I have never had that done or even had it mentioned to me and I had a mild cocaine problem 10 years ago. I know thats totally different and all my doctors know but I dont feel thats fair for them to treat you this way!

I hope you get SOME sort of relief!
