sure it takes time & is a hassle to do the preventitive & pallitive things but that's the problem with this disease - you have to stay on top of it to avoid and/or minimize flares.

I hate wearing orthitics , funny shoes using a back pillow all the time & not driving my sports car. It took me a couple of years to figure out that each time I used my miata I lost a week of my life.

Remember, basically fibro is not pain it amplifies or misinterprets a non-noxious nerve impulse as pain. If you do the things to keep from causing the sensation then the fibro will be less likley to flare as bad or as often (INMHO).

There is an excellent rub for the pain called BioFreeze. It actually numbs the area it's applied to. It makes the area very cold. It's not available in stores. You can order it through a Physical Therapist or from the site or some medical supply sites. You have to call your order in. They send a reorder slip with your product. I suggest the gel in the tube or w/ the pump. I purchased the roll on last time and I don't like it as well. It's less messy to apply but it wasn't as effective as rubbing it in. It's around $10 for a 4oz tube but it lasts a long time. The site is

Hope this helps someone.

I'm thinking I do need something stronger. I've even tried Lortabs and Percocets and it doesn't help. They just make me tired. Thanks for all the info, its helped.

My uncle is a chiropractor and he has BioFreeze in his office. Right now I'm using IcyHot and it helps some.

Yes, that BioFreeze is something special. Thanks Jenni for the reminder!

Linda says "I have tried the icing and it does help, I just forget to do it and it takes time and it's something that I don't want to do?? Do you understand any of that?? LOL"

Yes, I do understand, LOL! We all speak the same language here =) It's hard to wait, I totally feel that pain! I just know that nothing I have in my house was working so icing was well worth the wait. I see the doc in the morning, so I'm hoping she can help.

LzBeth - sometimes Ibuprofen works for me b/c I get sciatic pain as a result of my Fibro. I have a bad hip that there is "nothing" wrong, so it's a Fibro issue. When my muscles start to tense up, my nerves get inflamed and I can usually remove some of the burning feeling that I can tell is purely sciatic burn. It usually runs down the back of my legs, from my booty to my ankle. The feeling is much different than the Fibro burn. So, it depends up on the situation as to whether anti-inflammatory meds will work. Thus, yes, in a way, NSAID's will do nothing for you, but if you have joint issues that are helped through NSAID's then maybe you just need something in addition to that for your sensitive skin and muscle issues.

BShapiro - I hear you speak of those things that cause the reaction we have and get flares. I don't really know what that is in me that does it. It comes out of nowhere. I haven't been stressed in the past month, but I'm flaring the worst now. So, like medicine, I think that this condition is really person specific. I can't even remember the last time I was stressed out or whatnot...so, for me to feel this bad, the worst ever, is very, very confusing for me. I wish whatever it was I could have not done, if there was a reason at all. Nothing in my life has really changed lately.

And I guess I should add, I get the it's not pain, but it's interpreted as pain, but all I know is what I feel is pain...the best way I can describe it...I know it's our sensitivities that cause this "feeling"...I think that people would be confused if I told them all that BShapiro, so I just keep using the word "pain" in the sense that you are talking about.
