I was wondering if anyone else with FMS or similar condition(s) had tried aquatic therapy. I am currently doing it by reccomendation of my rhumatolgist and my physical therapist. I am doing it my self, without an instructor, in my own pool. My therapist reccommended up to 20 min. of breast stroke, side stroke, and laps. It has helped immensly. Especially in the evenings after my therapy appt.- I am really sore after therapy , but after swimming , I feel great! It helps with muscle, spinal, nerve, joint, and headache pains for me. I am so rejuvinated after a 20 min. swim and therapy that I feel great- and it seems to be helping with my sleeping problems associated with the FMS. So, I wanted to know if anyone else had used aquatic therapy to help with their FMS? If so, what were your results?

ttyl yall!

Zoe

This is a good question. Yes I have tried what they lo impact therapy. For me, it did not work. As I was in Hawaii at the time, and well, it took me a year to go to the beach, which I lived right across the street from. I swam in the for about ten minutes and was bedridden for a month. BUT THIS IS JUST MY EXPERIENCE. I don't know how long you have had this disorder because it seems to get worse. I joined a medical gym and they gave me back my membership without me asking and I don't know if you know about gyms but they do not refund.

The the problem with any kind of exercise is that our muscles are wasting, not just out leg muscles. So I can get a major flare up from swiming in the boyant water in the world. But again everyone is different.

My rheumy wrote me a prescription/referral to participate in water therapy. I did it at the hospital where the water was 92 degrees. I say "did" because I was doing it before gas got so expensive. I loved it! I'm 40, but was in the Senior Water Aerobics class. This class obviously had mostly older (middle aged, as I call them) in it. Therefore, it was less strain on the body. I was trying to go 2-3 times a week. I miss my water friends. They were so caring and sweet. Maybe, someday, gas will come down again, and I can start doing it again.

Warm/hot water, along with my meds, is the only thing that even helps provide just a little relief. I just spend 3 to 5 times in my bath tub. The water bill is way cheaper than the gas bill!

I hope it continues to help you.

No I haven't tried the water therapy but I know that my doctor and the Mayo clinic and most others recommend it. But first I would have to make myself get into a swimsuit I would be afraid that they would call out a whaler to snag me because they would thinnk that I was a beached whale. I did get the Mayo clinic DVD on Fibro and they have a low impact yoga session in it so I will try that before I chance going and getting harpooned. Jean
