Boy I can't wait for this day to be over. My youngest usually goes to bed around 8:45 and I will be right behind him tonight. I really don't see how I will make it through tomorrow at work (I am a teacher) unless things change over night--probably wishful thinking. I have just recently been diagnosed and my Dr did not prescribe anything he wanted to see if I could make it with OTC meds. I take Aleve and Tylenol. Any other suggestions for OTC meds, or maybe I should call him back tomorrow and see what he thinks? He isn't very good at listening to my symptoms ect. So not sure what to do. Suggestions????

So sorry you are having such a rough time right now!! I was a teacher too. I know that is a tough job. When I was first diagnosed, I was in a huge flare. I definitely could not make it on OTC meds. I went to a pain specialist and was put on four different things and a sleep med. It worked. I was really loopy, but it stopped the pain cycle!! I stayed on these meds for about 4 months and then slowly weaned off them one at a time. The pain was then tolerable and did not come back nearly as bad as it was. Some people need prescription meds. others do not. If what you are taking is not working for you, you need to talk to your doctor again. If he doesn't want to give you anything else, I would look for another doctor who will help you. I went through several doctors before finding one that knew how to help me. Personally Aleve or Tylenol would do nothing for me. I hope you can find some relief soon!! Take care. Red

Aleve, Tylenol,Ibuprofin, and the list goes on and on. None of those have ever brought me releife. When the pain first started getting really bad and I was still working, I was eating 2 to 3 tylenol every two hours. My doctor told me stop taking the Tylenol like that, and offered to wrote me out some Ibiprofin 800mg, but I had a big bottle of those already and told her they don't help.I hope that you tell your doctor that these don't help and if he can't help you then I would ask to be refered to a pain clinic.

The first thing i realized when i was diagnosed was that i am the patient and the doctor is there to listen to my concerns, and symptoms about my body. If they don't want to listen don't be afraid to find a doctor that will. Even if you have had this doctor for years or whatever the case may be. Before i was diagnosed i had to switch DR's every month for an entire year. I was like a door to door salesman i just took a copy of their notes or my chart right on to the next doctor. Then about 70 $10.00 co- pays later i was diagnosed not that, it was a good thing but i was definetly a relief to find a answer. But as far as medication i am using tramadol 200mg ER. But i did have to try a host of other medications before i got the tramadol which non addicting.

Well today isn't much better, so I called the Dr. He isn't in today but the nurse said that she would give him my message tomorrow. I don't know what to do--I really just want to cry! Seriously I do. I am a strong person usually but this is getting me down. People at work just don't get it either.

To all of you suffering...please be careful on how much Aleve, Ibuprofen you eat. My hubby went to the doctor on Friday, and since he lives on Aleve, etc...for his headaches and back pain...his KIDNEY counts were NOT good...usual count is a '1' and his were '1.9'. The doctor had him stop immediately all ibephrofin(sp?) as it is 'eating' his kidneys. He now has a script for 'Ultram'...which I have heard of, but is it good or not ???? So just be careful eating all those pills. Doctor said besides his script Ultram...only take Tylenol...nothing else!!

Good Luck to all of you

hurtallover,

I am so sorry that your day is not getting any better. But maybe since your doctor is not in today you need to either go to a different doctor in the same office or maybe even to the ER and let them know that over the counter meds are not working and your doctor is not in today. They should be able to get you some type of prescription meds to help you until you can get into the doctor's. Over the counter pain meds. never seemed to help me either but on pain pills it is a hit and miss game that you have to play until you find the right one.

Tuffy, sorry to hear about your husband. I am on Ultram and it does not really work for me. But everyone is different. I hope that it helps your husband. My prayers are with both of you.
