MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

I would like to know if there is anyone out there that has given up driving due to arthritis and fibro in the shoulders and fibro in the wrists and forearms. I did. I have been through 3 courses of physical therapy trying to get back to driving. I seem to do OK until towards the end of the time in PT, and then they really pile it on and I get injured before I even leave. Then I try to work my home program. This time I lasted longer than the two previous attempts. I tried everything I could to keep the program going. Put more days between exercising, got rid of resistance bands, cut number of reps, all of this gradurally, as my body protested more with less exertion. Same end result as before - I wind up quiting exercising. I refuse to give up on driving. Does anyone have some insight? I've been thinking about just getting behind the wheel and driving a little bit at a time, but my friends suggested I get checked out first. Bright Eyes

Personally, remembering what my Mom went through and even with my Dad, driving is a big deal. It is one of the last privileges we may have, and its a sign of independence!! I have my bad days to where I know my hands cannot grip the wheel good enough to make all the turns and corners necessary, so I stay home. Again, personally I would try to keep up with the short trips to places of your interest and go from there. Try having your arms in different positions...on the wheel. I do that when I can't grip the wheel very tight...so I adjust my arms...oh yes...especially so I don't get all tensed up in the shoulders from the anxiety of driving!! As they say, we have to keep moving our body parts affected with arthritis to keep going. No Pain, No Gain!! Only you will know when its time to quit driving!!
