Hey everyone. Two weeks ago I finally worked the last day that I could. Now I need to file for ssd. Can some of you help me with this?I don't know where to start. Do I file on it in the beginning? Or do I find a lawyer first? Could some of you share whom you filed with? Did you use a large association, or a local lawyer. Do you ever speak to your lawyer face to face or just always by phone or email.

I truly need some help-----I don't know where to begin, so.......................HELP!!!!! kathy

i know around here (Charlotte, NC area) most attorneys won't even see you until you get your initial denial. you can call a few in your area and see if any of them will work with you during the application process.

i got my denial in the mail yesterday, and called Binder and Binder. they are reviewing my information to see if they can represent me. if i'm not mistaken, they will also work with you on your application. their website is here. most of their offices are in the New York area, but they will work with you by phone and fly an attorney in for any hearings you have to go through.

i'm sure there are lots of good attorneys in your area too. any reputable won't charge a fee unless you win.

best of luck to you!!

Booklady14,

I used local lawyers and some of the local ones (Nebraska) will work with you on the first time. I know all the Lawyers that I know that handle cases like this will do it where if you do not win then they do not get paid. If you win then they take so much, it is not that much at. My best suggestion is that if you can get a lawyer right to file your first that will be the best thing for you.

I hope that you will find the easiest way for you. Good Luck and DON'T GIVE UP!

Rita

I've heard good things about Binder and Binder too. I called them when I was turned down at my hearin. They wanted a copy of my decision and a letter from my doctor stating I could not work for the next year. I have both but am waiting until my next hearing until I decide what to do. I like the person I am with and whe works well with my physicians. Hope this helps.

It has been years since I filed for mine. I had to file and then get a deniled. I even did my own appeal. Then when I was turned down again, I went to a local lawyer. They charged me a % of my settlment. Then they wanted me to pay $1.00 for every page of my doctors reports and all of the tests I had done over the years. So now I always ask for blood test results along with written reports for MRI, CT, etc. I encourage to get as much infor and give the lawyers a copy of everything you can get. Do not tell the Doc office you want them for a lawyer, then they will charge me. So I tell them that I like to have a copy for my own because I forget what I have been told about the test.

I hope this helps some.

I would strongly suggest getting a lawyer that is "experienced" in SSI cases. Fortunately, our friend had just passed his boards, was very smart and very eager to help me. And thank God for him. When you first apply, the SSI has you fill out a form with all kinds of questions..how much TV do you watch, do you do your own housework, do you have a PC and how many hours are you on it, blah blah blah. What I found...being "Honest" hurt me filling the form out, but luckly my lawyer reviewed it with me and pointed out ALOT of how they can "Get cha'" on your answers. Example Question: How many hours are you on your PC per day? Answer could be 'honestly'...4-5 hours. Well Bingo..they gotcha! If you can be at home and on the PC for those many hours, you can get a job in Data entry working part time. Do you see what I mean?

And then..they have your significant other, if any to also fill out a page of questions as to if he helps you. This is where you need to get an 'experienced SSI case lawyer' to help you fill out these forms. At the time I filed, 8+ yrs ago, it was an AUTOMATIC DENIAL 3 TIMES, and it seems to still be that way, so plz DON'T get discouraged. It took me 4 yrs to get my disability and Medicare, but it was well worth it.

Hopes this helps a little bit? Hugs to you today

Mine was about 3 years ago. I don't know if I was required to file first or not. I filed, got turned down, appealed, was turned down, then got an attorney. My mother-in-law retired from Social Security and that's what she had advised me to do. I know they take a lot of consideration in your work history. I think that's to see if you are willing to work, but can't, or are just lazy. If you've always been working, and you start missing more and more as time goes on, (and of course doctors to back up that's when you first got sick), then they believe that you did all you could do and had no choice but to quit working. I was 50 yrs old, so that helped. I hired a law firm here, but they were a big one that delt with SSD claims only. After you turn it over to a lawyer, you have to have lots of patience. If you are in a position that you know you can't work much longer, you can file ahead of time to cut some waiting time off. Hope this helps some. Good luck.

Kathy,

Well you completed the hardest part of the whole thing, Admitting to yourself you can't work anymore. At least that's how it was for me. I had filed and was turned down and got Hughes and Coleman and they up and dropped me out of no where after 1 year. I done went to ALJ on my own. If I'm denied at this point I will get a Lawyer. But Here in Kentucky you can get a lawyer before you even file for your disability. But I think I will get it this time, the vocational person that was there said I couldn't do the work I was use to doing. Not to mention I have many other health problems on top of the Fibro. Good LUCK. I will pray for you.

its pretty easy to get the ball rolling on ssi / ssdi

goto some of those links below and apply

all the information is there

takes about 30 mins and thats it

good luck, if you got questions just ask

i got denied first in 1995

but i tried again all by myself in 2003 and got it

no lawyers, all on my own

thats about the best thing ive done for myself yet

if you truly have a serious medical condition and its logged by many doctors visits it isn't hard to get ssdi, it takes time<months> but it really isn't hard. you dont need to pay a lawyer. just got to goto those links and research

Why Lie, When you Can Just Be Honest
lying takes 100 heart beats
telling the truth takes 2
if you lie now they will find out later and things will be worse then ever so just tell the truth now and deal with it
