As a suggestion by my Primary care physician. I went in for a 2nd opinion with a Rheumatologist she suggested today. It seems like in the past few months I have been on/off alot of medications. The medications I am on don't seem to be helping much. My health issues are complicated, I not only have fibromyalgia, also early Rheumatoid Arthritis and a bad spine with several herinated discs. I've wondered if my doctors are focusing too much on the Fibro and overlooking all the disc problems. I have been off work on a unpaid medical leave since july and had filed for SSDI in January. The doctor went over my medical history, examined me. I got dressed she came back in. I was expecting for her to tell me. Yes, I agree you have fibro, Rheumatoid arthritis ect.. I think the majority of your pain stems from blank... I would try this or not do that. Instead she sits down and tells me that I have chronic pain that is never going to go away. That I should go back to work so that I can take my mind off of it at least!! She tells me the Fibromyalgia is easy to treat. You give people a sleeping aid and a strict excerise regime and they are well again. The only thing I did get out of the appointment is that alot of my pain is coming from my spine issues. Other than that.. I paid her a $35.00 co-pay and walked out of her office upset and depressed! Hopefully her opinion doesn't ruin my disability case. She tells me to go back to work, however doesn't know what kind of job and confirms I will be in chronic pain the rest of my life?? Thanks for listen!!

Sorry You had a bad time with the new Doctor! My Rheumatologist is the most understanding about FM out of all my docs. To bad you did not find one like that. Keep trying there is a good one out there. I am adding my comments to everyone elses because for years I put up with pain and a crappy doctor. Just because I did not know I could (and should) be treated better.

Sorry you had to go through that, that happened to me when I went to see a Rheumy. I told my primary about him when I went back.

Besides Fibro I have a rare neurological disorder that causes severe pain also. This guy proceeded to tell me that you don't have pain with my disorder. He didn't know jack about what I have, I left the office in tears.

My husband said I should have asked for my co-pay back.

He also told me there was no reason I couldn't work. It didn't hurt my disability. I went on to see a pain management doctor after that.

Definetly get a new doctor, maybe a doctor called: Physiatrist (Physical Medicine & Rehab) they treat a lot of patients with Fibro & spine problems.

I wish you luck in finding a new doctor.

Joanne

Thank you every one!! I have been so depressed today. Luckily The Rhuemy I saw today was STRICTLY for a Fresh look on things. I do have a Rheumatologist that does understand the pain of Fibromyalgia on board with my care. I started seeing her in December and have heard many negative comments from other people about how she puts her patients on way too many drugs. She had been putting me on quite of few. I was having some side effects such as "seeing things" with no real relief in my pain. When I told her about this she just wanted to increase the dosage of my meds. I also felt my Neurologist was blaming too much of pain problems on the Fibro. I felt he was ignoring the fact that I have 3 bulging discs in my neck, two badly herinated discs in my thoracic spine and 2 herinated discs in my lumbar spine as a cause of my pain issues besides just the Fibro. I wish now I would have left I wouldn't have gotten the 2nd opinion!! It sounds like this doctor is one that doesn't believe in Fibromyalgia. She is definitely not one to handle working with a patients dealing with chronic pain. I did start to cry in this physicians office. I told that I almost lost my job of 14 years due to these problems that I am having. I have currently been off work since July without pay. ( she says oh really without any kind of pay). When I came into your office I expected you to give me your opinion on my health issues, where you think the majority of my pain is steming from, so that I can can better. Because I want to return to work. I filed for disability because I can't work under these conditions. I can't do my daily things around my house, so How am i supposed to do my job. My physicians have told me that it is going to be at least 2 years before I will see any kind of improvements. I need an income coming in. Then she wanted to give me a opinion on my health. She asked if I been through any kind of chronic pain management. I then told her that since july I have seen 3 different physical therapist and have had several epidural injections. She said too many epidural injections are not good for you. I said exactly. I then asked her If I was supposed to run to physical therapy and for injections every few months?? Which is the only reason, I can walk in her office by the way!! For the rest of my life? She didn't have an answer for me. That was how the appointment ended. What a waste of my money though... By the way. The physical therapist I am currently seeing is going to be sending a note to my doctors. He says that my muscles all over my body are extremely severe and I have absolutely no motion. He totally can see why am in such pain. He is going to make sure they know about it. He says that I definitely can't work under these conditions. He wants to write the letter to see if it will help me to get my benefits from my employer. This makes me feel much better. I know this is really, really long... Thanks so much for listening!! xoxox
