Has anyone tried one of these?

I have a consultation with an in-patient pain center at one of the leading teaching hospitals. I was wondering if anyone had tried one of these. From what I understand, you stay 2 weeks. During that time you are taken off all of your meds and only put back on what you need. Apparently, when they do this you get better results at much lower doses. They are supposed to have everything there that you need. Psychiatrist, psychologist, nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physical therpists, whirlpool, massage therapy...

I am afraid, but I am going to try it. Everyone is telling me this is what I need that I am on too many meds and that polypharmacy is not good for anyone. I think I am only on what I need.

I am going to pain management tomorrow and I am going to ask him what he thinks of these places.

When I heard the doctor speak on Lyrica from one of the other places like this he made fun of the people that cannot get their pain under control and are on so many pain meds. If I get that impression, I am not going.

Sandi,

This is what my new Doctor had suggested to me, but said my insurance probably would not cover it.

He wanted me to go to John Hopkins or some other place in Florida.

Yep, the team approach to get you off a lot your meds, etc... My doctor said I was "polypharmacy"

I was suppose to go to water therapy, I bet it would help. If you can afford it. Give it a try.

My doc suggested water exercises also, well I suggested it to him.

I have to wait for a medical clearance before I can begin & I need my mri's approved for that to happen.

I went to my regular pain doctor yesterday and he does not think I am ready for the in patient center yet. He agreed that I am alot of meds, but we are still diagnosing my issues. Yesterday I had to have an MRI of my right ankle because the orthopedic doctor thought I had a stress fracture of the tibula. It turned out to be an excessive ant of swelling in the ankle that the radiologist thought was odd. The orthopedic doctor gave me a shot of something that stated with a K----, it burned and then numbed my foot and ankle and then the swelling got better. Now I am going to a rheumy. My hips are the same way. I can't sleep on them. This started a few weeks ago. He wanted to increase my pain meds but I still drive and I am falling asleep driving on what I am taking. He just increased my percocet. I know I could use something stronger, but then I will sleep even more than I already do and I have a marriage and kids to think about. I am just about to loose it. I can't believe all this is showing up, but the judge accused me of overplaying and psychosomatic problems.

I feel like I am in hillbilly town or something. We don't have any of the things like the pain clinics and in-patient pain centers. But I hear all of you talking about the hospitals and things like that that is supposed to be so good (around here we think Johns-Hopkins and places like that seem to have all the answers) but I am taking virtually the same meds as you guys have been prescribed. I guess it is all in how well your doctor keeps up on the latest news and treatments. We do have one pain clinic but they mostly treat back injuries and things like that. My doc. was going to refer me there and I don't know what happened because I haven't heard anymore from him on that.

Sandi, I use nortriptylene for the depression and it helps some. I think we are going to have to raise the dose though because I have been getting really depressed from the more pain I have been in lately. My sister has depression and she takes buspar and a low dose of prozac and she does ok on that. I hope you find something that helps.
