Hey Everyone,

My name is Korinne and I'm happy to meet you all, so feel free to message me through my e-mail kmkohio@yahoo.com. I'm mostly looking for anyone that knows of any physicians in Ohio that take care of FM patients. My profile explains more of what I am going through and why I am nearly desperate at this point for some help!

I'm done just going to anyone to get them to understand my symptoms and pain. I just get treated like a pill seeker, thanks to those who abuse pain killers.

I think that pain medicine should be treated just as arthritis medication, heart medication, or depression medication. Physicians are so worried about addition, but there are plenty of medications out there that once a person stays on them for a long time they have to be weaned off of them. So, isn't that a form of addiction in a sense? I just don't get it. I was crying at my last appointment b/c of the pain and he rushed through an exam and really didn't ask many questions, so I didn't get everything out. He was more concerned that I smelled like a cigarette smoker than what my condition is...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Hi, I'm new here too, but I know what you mean about pain meds. I was working for a family practice as a receptionist and then in billing when all my troubles started. There are some people out there that are drug seekers which makes it harder for the rest of us that aren't. The older physcian doesn't like to give pain meds at all. He just doesn't ger it. Luckily for me he got a new partner who is probably one of the best doctor's I have had the privilge to know. He has helped me in so many ways and is so supportive, I thank God everyday for him. I have a very large script for Vicodin HP which I only take if I have too plus I use Soma as my muscle relaxor and I have been using Fendayl patches 100 mg for almost a year. I am drug tested at least every 3 months to prove that I'm using the meds and not selling them(DEA rule)which is fine with me, maybe it will cut out the drug seekes a.k.a.dealers and abusers. My doctor told me that people with chronic pain aren't the ones that become addicted. Although I know I am addicted to the patches. There is no way not to be. My doctor told me when the time comes we'll reduce them back and go from there.

The main thing you need to do is get a doctor who understands fibro. You also need to see a rheumatologist. Basically, a team, your team. Sounds easy but I know it's not. Sorry if a rambled on. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your advice! I just feel like I deal with this everyday of my life and all I want from the doc is to help me through this "episode" until the weather regulates to cold instead of hot/cold. It wreaks havoc on my body! I promised myself that I would come home from work today and get some sleep, but it's not 11:15 and I just can't go to sleep. I was able to get zanaflex, which is a muscle relaxer, for my muscle spasms. This new doc really completely ignored that I said I have spasms...but, I'm going to look for a rheumatologist like you suggested. I also found a couple numbers for docs that say they are fibro familiar. When I make my next appt, I'm going to ask first if any of the physicians in the practice are fibro familiar so that I know I'll see someone that is compassionate about this.

I'm happy that you were able to find someone that understands what you are going through and is supportive. At this point, I'm just relying on something that I shouldn't but until I find someone that understands me, I just have to do what I have to do. I have to find someone that can see me in the next week as my insurance will run out until I'm at my new job for 90 days...ugh...THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY!

Welcome KMOHIO and kychick!!! I see you've already met a few of the great people here. I like this BB so much because we don't have to be concerned that we won't be believed when we vent about our trials and tribulations. Welcome. Hope to see you in chat too!!!
