MDJunction to me

"In the 3 months I have been with MDJunction I have developed a sense of calmness. I now friends who do not judge me because I have been a mental mess at times. It is such a good feeling to have friends I can tell my deepest thoughts and always get back to me with their support. I have never seen a therapist for long periods of time. Right or wrong, this is the best therapy possible for me. Thanks Roy for getting this up and running and making such a difference in my life. Sara" (saralaurie)

I have been asked what the FVL is on my site. I've explained it a few times, but Nicole18 just asked me as well. So......I'll try to keep it down to 10 pages

I listed this on my profile and I guess that is where people are getting this thread.

What is FVL better know as Factor V Leiden discovered through DNA in 1995 at the Leiden University in the Netherlands. It is a blood clotting disorder. It is genetic. I got my from mom and then my 26 year old daughter has it.

What this disease does is put people with this at a very high risk for blood clots. There are all kinds of symptoms. If you know you have it there is a list of things that you MUST do and a list of things that you MUST NOT DO. Thankfully I have not had a stroke. My mom has had 5 and her entire bloodline before here all died with massive strokes.

If you know of someone who had a stroke or a family that seems to have a history of it URGE them to go have the test done. It is only a blood test and not that expensive...now. When I had my blood sent in 1998 the medical world didn't have a clue what it was. But one of the professors from the Netherlands moved his practice to Muncie Indina. Now more and more hemo. docs are learning more about it. But since I was just 3 years after the findings through DNA they flew 3 vials of my blood to Muncie at $1,000. a vial. Now they do it everywhere and about 5 years ago cost 200. I'm sure it's gone down even more. That may be more than what you wanted to know but it is a life threatening disease for me. So again i URGE everyone that has had a stroke or know of someone that has encourage them to get the test. It could very well save their lives!

I didn't put a lot of happy faces on this post. I have fibro as well, but as far as I know it is not life threatening. This is a deadly killer disease if you don't know that you have it. But you should get the test first. And if anyone, including fibros want anymore info. I,m loaded with information. The first hemotologist I went to back in 1998 I had to explain to him what the disease is. And it's not to much better than that now. In fact, when I had my hysterectomy 10 years ago, I had to tell my hemo the protocol so that he could give that protocol to the surgeon!! So I have lots of research on the subject, and I live with it everyday......is this the day I'm going to throw a clot? Is it just going to be a small one, a larger one that puts me in a wheelchair and of course the massive one that puts me in my grave. This is a serious matter for me......and anyone if I can help please pm or pm and ask for my email. I sure hope I didn't confuse everyone.

Now the funny part is there is such a thing as "fibro fog". Those on this site know that. But there is also a "thyroid fog" and then there is the "sugar" fog with diabetes. So it gets pretty "foggy" around here sometimes. Kathy

Big hugs to you Kathy for dealing with your ailments. My brother in law had a stroke back in November and that came out of nowhere. He and his wife are 'health nuts...no butter, fried foods, etc. They walked miles every morning, etc, so Don's stroke shocked everyone. I'd appreciate it if you would PM me with the exact name of the blood test, and I will then email my sister-in-law to ask for this at their next doctors visit. Thank you for educating us. We all tend to cut the name of our ailments down to just initials....like DDD or D3...Degenerative Disk Disease. Few of us members also have this very painful disease, and its no fun when you 'know' and 'feel' the effects. Your disks, knees, etc just literally disinigrate and there is nothing we can do for it except have steel rods placed in our backs to take the place of our disks, etc. so it is not fun. Thats when walkers and wheelchairs invade our life. Yet when people stare at us seeing that we "look" perfectly healthy, but oh...if they could only spend a day in our shoes.

Again, thank you for educating us on your condition. We can never have enough knowledge of helath issues. Hugs to you today!

Hey zakaroo, wow what a name. I love it. Can you explain how you created your call name?

And instead of sending you a pm I thought I would put it on the site again, in case there are others that read this over the next few days and might want to know what it stands for. Some doctors call it FVL which is the proper name. Some call it LFV. But the correct one is FVL. And that stands for Factor V Leiden. And the V stands for a roman numeral for the number 5. I would highly recommend that he gets check for it. Its not that expensive anymore even if he might not have insurance. But if he knew that he had it, he could do alot of things to prevent further strokes. Any further questions from you are anyone else please feel free to pm or post because this disease is a killer. It is actually the most common blood disorders out there. But because it was'nt discovered until 1995 - so few doctors know nothing are all or are fools about what they do know. I would highly recommend anyone that find out they have this to go buy some books on it. YOU need to know about it, because your doctor may not.

Sorry for such a long answer, but this is a killer disease in me and I'm very passionate about informing others about it. kathy

Thanks Kathy. Yeah, my screen name is weird. But it is named after my one of 3 dogs ....a Samoyed (pure white) and his name is Zak. With all the names we give our dogs...Zak being a "snuggle bear", I call him by Zakaroo alot. Oh Zak - a -rooo whooo. Make your voice go up high and then low...Zak-a-roooo-hooo We love Samoyed's and they are the best tempermnted dogs on earth...personal opinion of course. If I could EVER figure out how to post a picture on here, It would be !! of my 2 main dogs, Zak and Harley. They love their 'pool' in the hot weather months. I will post pictures if I can ever figure out how to do it. I go through the steps posted, but it never gets to my profile, etc!! Frustrating!! Anyway, thank you SO much for all the FVL info. I will definitely email my sister-in-law and have her hubby tested for this. Personally "I" would want to know if a future stroke was in store for me...but all people are different. Thanks again
