Sounds like you just had a nasty tech. Mine was very calm and understanding.

They also told me to take all the medcines that I would take any night. They wanted to know how my sleep was even with all my meds. According to the tech to not use you meds that your body uses everynight would lead to a false reading and then they put enough pressure on your machine to blow the nose off your face.

I promise you this, my husband has sleep apnea, and I have sleep hgpopnea, and after we got used to the machine sleep was like a miracle for my husband. And even with the nights I have sleeping, I would still sleep better with my cpap. I encourage you to try again. It is difficult being in a cold gray room and just shutting your eyes on demand. Talk to your doc and see if he can give you something several hours before the test, and have your doc tell them he wants the study with all your night meds, so he can see how she sleeps now.

Thanks for your input. I am thinking about it, but I need a couple of months to forget the trauma of it, and there's no guarantee that I won't get that same tech again.

There's only one sleep lab that my medicaid covers. I don't take any sleep meds except for Flexeril at the time of the test, and it didn't help at all. I was just too tense and wound up. I know this is an important test, and I do want to know if I have sleep apnea or some other form of sleep disorder. At least the next time I will know what to expect, but I may need enough sleeping meds to knock out an elephant!

You should try again, after telling your doctor what problemes you had falling asleep. My father in law had the same problema and they were able to work something out so that he was able to do much better the second time. I will try to find out what they did and PM you. I just had a sleep studya and I was in a large room that looked like a hotel where I was encouraged to make mayself at home. You definitely got a tech with an attitude. I am so sorry that happened. It is a very important tests for you. Please try it again. Maybe say you are scared and take someone with you, then she/he will have to be nice to you.

hipmama I'm so sorry you har such a bad experience. You definately need to let your doctor know about the treatment you recieved as well as your normal time for falling asleep. when I had my study done they were very understanding and helpful. Please give it some time and try again it is so important for good sleep.

I don't know exactly what the circumstances were but when my uncle has his sleep study done the techs came to his home to perform the study. My Mom, Dad, husband & sister have had sleep studies performed and they had to go to the sleep center. I'm not sure what made the difference.

I too was in that 'sleep lab' at Hillcrest hospital. I went in at 8pm and yes, they want you asleep by a certain time. Yeah right buddy..good luck with that. I always fall asleep with the TV on at least an hour sleep timer, and that helps 'sometimes'. Hipmama42...maybe take their suggestion on getting an Ambien CR to help you fall asleep before the test? Of course it took about 6 showers to get all that glue stuff out of my hair and scalp!!

How about changing doctors and go to mine at Hillcrest Hospital on hwy 322 and 91. He is such a great doctor. He believes me and my many ailments and prescribes me meds to help me out. He'll give me anyting to deal with my severe pain, sleepliness, fibro and DDD. I found my magic combo of taking an Ambien CR and 'Trazadone' and it ""really"" helps me to sleep. But I've learned to take them and then go right to bed. For me, they work with 10-20 minutes and send me right into la-la land! Course I still have my 'bad' nights with no sleep. Usually when my hubby wakes up at 2 or 3AM and sees I am still up watching TV, he sternly tells me to GO TO BED..its 3am! Yeah well, easier said than done. But he is just trying to help me!

Maybe the lab lady you got was having a bad day and no patience for patients! ?? Try another location to take the sleep study. Plus ha, their rooms...they try to decorate it with a nice setting but geez....invest some money and get "Comfortable" beds. How can they expect U to sleep when you feel the springs coming through the mattress! And having DDD didn't help me to be comfortable either.

My husband found that I had possible sleep apnea. We use the same doctor and he told the Dr that I would stop breathing for several seconds alot during the night! That 'not breathing' really concerned him. So hense, the sleep study, and the hubby was right! My oxygen level drops to below 70 when I am sleeping, so CPAP here I am!

I wish you better luck next time PM me anytime!!

I had the sleep study and yes it is a wierd thing. I also did not take any of my normal meds before going so I felt like I was in a half sleep. I knew it was only one night so I guess I put up with it. The worse part is I had to go to the bathroom at some point. I didn't remember the woman's name so at like 3am I was saying "Hey... somebody...LOL" all that diconnecting just to pee- what a pain. All it showed was that I do have very light sleep patterns- no apnea etc. Light sleep is not uncommon with us but if you HAVE apnea I heard people often feel better using the oxygen even if it takes a while getting used to it.
