I AM NEW TO THIS SITE. I WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH FIBROMYALGIA TODAY. I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS NOW AND WAS GOING INTO DEPRESSION CUZ NO ONE COULD FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME. MY MOM WAS MEDICALLY DISCHARGED FROM THE MILITARY CUZ OF THIS DISORDER AND TOLD ME I SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR IT..AT THE TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THIS DISORDER DIDN'T EXIST..JUST SOMETHING THAT THEY DIAGNOSED YOU WITH WHEN THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING ELSE BUT NOW IT'S BECOMING MORE KNOWN AND FINALLY I CAN GET TREATMENT. A FRIEND SAID I SHOULD FIND A SITE LIKE THIS SO HERE I AM.

CHRISTINA

Welcome Christina!! You have found a wonderful group of people here!! Please join in to any of the posts you are interested in, or post your own questions. It took me about 4 years to get diagnosed. Had problems longer than this, but didn't know what was going on. It is wonderful to finally have this validated isn't it?!! It is terrible to know something is wrong but no one believes you! We all know exactly how you feel. I am glad you have found someone to help you now!! Welcome again, Red

WHAT MAKES THIS SO GREAT IS THAT I CAN TALK ABOUT WHAT I'M FEELING AND GOING THROUGH WITHOUT GETTING BRUSHED OFF KINDA. I'VE HAD PEOPLE TELL ME THEY HAVE IT..LIKE MY BOSS, WHO HAS TAKEN ME OFF THE SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEK AGAINST MY WILL..BUT ANYWAY SHE SAYS SHE HAS IT BUT ACTS LIKE IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL...WELL MAYBE SHE DOESN'T HURT AS BAD AS SOME I DON'T KNOW..ALL I KNOW IS THAT I DO...AND IT FEELS SO GREAT TO FINALLY HAVE A NAME WITH WHAT I FEEL. EVEN THOUGH I'D RATHER NOT HAVE IT BUT I WAS SO HAPPY TO BE TOLD TODAY THAT I DID HAVE IT..IF THAT MAKES SENSE.

Christina, I had a lady say once that she has FM too because her leg muscle hurts her some days. I can't say that she doesn't have it, but I sure have more than just a leg muscle hurting!! However, I have found that this FM affects all of us differently. Some are still able to work, others are not. I had to quit my job after 15 years there. It just wasn't possible to work any longer. I have had to learn what I CAN do and what I CAN'T do so I don't wear myself out. Read some books about FM. I find that the more I know about this condition the better I am able to cope with it. I'm reading "The Fibromyalgia Advocate" by Devin J. Starlanyl M.D. right now. It has a lot of info in it.

Take care of yourself! Red

I SAW THAT SOMEONE POSTED ABOUT THAT BOOK..I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE BUT DIFFERENT SITES SAY DIFFERENT THINGS ...NOT HUGE DIFFERENCES BUT DIFFERENCES. I MAY HAVE TO CHECK THAT BOOK OUT. I AGREE ON WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT PEOPLE BEING AFFECTED DIFFERENTLY. YES SHE MAY HAVE IT BUT NOT AS BAD. MY MOM WAS MEDICALLY DISCHARGED FROM THE MILITARY FROM IT AND SO MANY PEOPLE CAN'T WORK CUZ OF IT SO I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. BUT PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING AT WORK THAT I WASN'T VACCUUMING AT NIGHT..WHICH I ONLY MISSED 2 NIGHTS...AND THAT I WASN'T WORKING AS FAST..WELL I'M PUSHING THROUGH IT AS MUCH AS I CAN AT WORK BUT THERE'S ONLY SO MUCH I CAN DO AND I DON'T WANT TO LOSE MY JOB CUZ OF IT BUT THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT...BUT ANYWAY IT'S TOUGH AND DEPRESSING BUT I TRY.

THANKS

CHRISTINA

Oh my goodness! Vacuuming is what really kills me. I have to plan a nap after that one I also pushed through as long as I could. But, you also have to take care of you. No, you cannot help it when your body just won't let you go anymore. Mine will just shut down on me, and either I lay down, or fall down. I'm sorry for your struggles at work right now. I know how that is. I was heartbroken when I had to quit. I was a teacher for 15 years. I loved my students. But, I'm ok with it now. I have found new joys in my life with spending more time with my kids and hubby! It is easy to get depressed on days you're really hurting and tired. I try to write down two good things about my life each day...maybe it's something small, but it is important to me. I now find pleasure in the little things I never noticed before. I am also seeing a therapist to help me deal with the emotional struggles of having a chronic condition. It has helped me greatly. Being able to express myself or join in on this site has also helped a great deal. It's wonderful to find others who can REALLY understand!! (I'm sorry to hear about your mom too) Red
