One reason why i feel as if my diagnosis is wrong, is because of these 2 terrifying symptoms.

1) Randomly, I will as if my heart pushes in towards me, and i get a shoot of pain up through my chest followed by my breath being taken away for a few seconds. This can happen over 20 times in one day, one followed right after the other, or once a week and not show up after a few weeks. Right now i am having a bout of them which has so far been going on for 3 days staright. And like i said this is random, it happens when i'm just sitting watching t.v or when i'm slightly active, or in the middle of talking, just any time. and it's always like "WHOA! what the heck what that?!?" haha

2) SOmetimes it feels hard to breathe. I guess you would say short of breath, as if my body is not satisfied with the amount of air i'mtaking in. This can last for hours, weeks, and then just go away. It can happen at any time, doing anything.

Is this normal with Fibromyalgia? Should i be investigating this further with doctors?

The first symptom i mention has been happening since i was about 15/16, but i am worried about it now because it feels as if it's becoming worse.

If anyone could help with this ridiculously long post, I'd appreciate it.

I'm not sure I'll be any help but,I too get both symtoms. And along with them,I have severe palpitations(when your heart flutters, and even skips a beat).I really don't know if its "normal" for Fibro sufferers to have these symptoms, but I know I have them, now you,and several other people I know with Fibro. If your concerned about these problems, please mention them to your doctor(s) and see what they tell you.I have had tests run on my heart, and was checked by many doctors...and they didn't find any irregularities. But if I were you,I'd still mention this to your doctors and discuss some tests if he/she is concerned.I hope I've helped a little??!!~JL~ Take Care

yes that has definately helped a little, knowing that i'm not goin out of my mind and the only one haha. I did go to a cardiologist, but not about this exact symptom, although i did mention it to him. I was put on an event monitor for a month. They found from this that my heart would beat too fast sometimes...it would go to 140 when i was resting. I had an Echo done ( not sure of the spelling haha) and they said it was normal, along with an EKG. But i was having this symptom at the time of the tests, it would happen before or after, so i'm just not sure.

Also, i don't know if this helps, but i was diagnosed with MONO when i was 15. My cardiologsit said i relapsed this year, and that is why my heart rate would go so fast, he said i was experiencing POTS..but when i was just recently diagnosed bby the Children's Hospital of PA, my diagnostic team said that i didn't relapse or get POTS, it was Fibro the whole time...man even i'm confused haha

Yes, I too will have problems that seem something like this. I can be doing anything, but many times I'm sitting down. My left side will have stabbing pains started low and moving up through my heart area...into my lungs. I can't breath without SHARP, STABBING pains in my lung area. I end up leaning over holding my side and breathing really shallow for awhile until it quits....usually a couple minutes at most. Then it goes away. My chiro. showed me a muscle around my side that could cause that pain when the muscle has a spasm.

However, having said that.....I have already been through numerous tests on my heart....wearing holter monitor, blood work, sonograms, etc. They keep coming back fine. I do have mild mitral valve prolapse. So, must be sure heart checks out ok.

JL...my heart will also flutter and skip a beat sometimes. I had a couple days during a flare that I couldn't seem to get it to slow down and quit fluttering. I layed down and still felt an elevated heart rate for awhile...but it went away after relaxing for a couple hours in bed. Thank goodness!! Or I would have ended back in the docs office. My blood pressure will escalate on bad pain days....but will also drop low at unexpected times. This doesn't feel good either.

I also have had anxiety attacks too. This is a time when my whole chest tightens up until I feel I can't breath and my chest is crushing in on me. I hate these. I really do have to work at focusing and relaxing to get this stopped. My chest will also tighten up this way when I overdo...especially vaccuuming!!

Needless to say...I wouldn't blame it on fibro. unless my heart was thoroughly checked out by a doc first. Then if my symptoms changed and just didn't seem right, I would have it checked out again.

thanks JLCarter for you answers and concern, and my doctor said to call him if i had any questions or concerns,so don't worry, i will talk to him about it.

Red2, sorry to hear about what you're going through. I guess Fibro can cause many things as i am just starting to find out.

I totally agree with you Red,I think Nicolelm18 should be checked by her doctor...I've had many tests done so I am sure my situation points to the Fibro.I can only speak for myself,I am no doctor...and if I were experiencing all this without any testing,I would for sure go talk to my doctors, and get whatever tests they suggest.I'm not trying to scare anyone, but its better to be safe than sorry.
