Hi my name is Gretchen.. I was diagnosed with fibro back in dec... You might have seen me around, but this is my first post.....I have been given Elavil to sleep and it is not helping! And when I do sleep after I take it at night, I feel so groggy the next morning, I wish I hadn't taken it. and I am only taking half of 25 mgs. Does anyone wake up groggy on there sleep meds? But, do you sleep well? I am just at the beginning of this terrble condition, and don't know quite where to turn.... Thanks, Gretchen

i take ambien as needed for sleep. it helps me sleep but i am unable to take it on a daily basis because of my history of med allegies and reactions. but i recently found out i have restless leg syndrome which has been the factor in me not sleeping besides the pain. my gp told me to take a super b complex vitamin for the rls and it has helped so much.

Since I was on so many medications, my doctor started "small". Went to an old anti-depressant that is known to make you sleep. I was given Trazodone 50mg. It says on the bottle to take 1 to 2 nightly. I "played" around with it for over a month. I was like you, if I took the recommended dose, then I was VERY groggy in the morning and it would knock me out as soon as I took it. So finally I realized that if I take 1/2 tablet (25mg) before bed, it didn't help me go to sleep as much as it helped me stay asleep and that is what I needed.

Hope this helps. It is one of the "cheap $4 drugs"

Good Luck!

Amy

Elavil actually kept me awake and made me terribly anxious. I had to stop taking it. Plus I ate anything and everything that wasn't nailed down and gained 17 pounds in 7 weeks. Trazadone works for me. I hope that you find something that will work for you.

My doctor put me on Elavil as well. I also take 3 mg of Lunesta at bedtime. I cant say either one really helps . Imean I go to bed, but staying asleep is a problem. I awake in the middle of the night with night sweats and Im terribly groggy and sleepy in the am most of the time.

Good luck guys in finding what works for you. Part of my problem is I go to bed worrying about everything. My mind is constantly going and I dont think it ever gets a chance to "unwind and slow down"

When the world says give up, hope whispers give it one more try... unknown

Another thing to consider is the Fatigue part of Fibro. Although you sleep, are you actually getting to REM Sleep?

I am now on a CPAP machine. Although I don't quit breathing at night like I used to, and I sleep more 'hours' now, I still yawn all day and can sleep day and night for 3 days at a time sometimes. Reason is although the CPAP IS doing it's job, the Fibro won't allow me to get REM sleep. At least that's what I was told. No amount of med or machine will help unless you are able to get to REM. You might talk to your Doc about your sleeping med and tell him you are still REALLY tired sometimes to the point of exhaustion, yet your body/mind want to go, but yet the groggy and even dopiness the sleep meds can leave you with in the morning make you worry about you and your families safety. (If you have to drive in the mornings.) You can 'think' you sleep well, but take check on how you feel, and if you share a bed (spouse, significant other, etc.) ask THEM if they notice how you sleep.

Good Wishes and many hugs

Pamela {please}

I wish tons of love and hugs!

I take cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxer) about an hour before bedtime but if I take 10mg I do feel groggy in the morning and if I take 5mg it doesn't seem to help so I only take it maybe 2 or 3 nights a week. Can't be in a fibrofog all the time! lol

I take 50mg of elevil, 10mg of cyclobenzaprine and 1mg of klonogen. if I dont take them all, I can not sleep. When I first started them, I had a hard time with being groggy all say long. but after I took them for a while, they dont bother me anymore.
