MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

I have been to several doctors, none of which are very knowledgeable about FMS. I do not think we have one in our area. So, I have a question for you. Is severe hand and finger pain when there isn't a reason part of FMS or is it Arthiritis. I know that it is primarily pain of the muscles, but what about when it feels that it is deep inside, maybe even your bones, is that part of FMS also or is this Arthiritis? Thanks! And may you have a good pain free day. P.S. If any of you live in central Arkansas and know of a good FMS Dr. would you let me know.

I can't speak as a medical professional, but I have FMS and do have trouble of my hand (and feet and shoulders and neck). Remember FMS doesn't cause pain it just amplifies pain as well as amplifying other sensations to the point where they become painful.

one possibility is you also have Chronic Myofascial Pain as well as FMS Chronic Myofascial Pain is a common comorbidity with FMS. unless the conversant with chronic myofacial pain most doctors have a hard time telling you why your hands hurt. In my own personal experience, they did numerous nerve conduction tests than shrugged their shoulders and sent me to physical therapy.

my advice to you as to all new people here is to get a copy of The Fibromyalgia Advocate

By Delvin Starlaynel MD. Just go to amazon & search on Fibromyalfgia - it's the big purple book. She also wrote a "Survival Guide" (the big green book) - you can start with either or both. You really, rally, need to get & read these books.

as usual, I offer to buy you a copy if you, like many others, are in reduced circumstances because of your FMS.

Thanks so much for the info. I will certainly try to find these books. Do the books deal with all the other sometimes linked illnesses of FMS?

[b]Hi! I'd like to know the same thing. My hands burn and tingle all the time and my ring finger and pinky stay numb most of the time. I personally, do not think this is normal. I can't find a decent doctor in my area. My former doc. moved to Washington D.C. He was a specialist w/ FM. Good luck to you. I'll say a prayer for you. I also hope you begin to feel better real soon!!!!!

If the cause or one of the causes of fibro is the C1 vertebrae pushing on the menenges which then pulls on all the nerve roots, I would think it would cause that kind of pain. If it is yeast overgrowth causing leaky gut, then the toxins in the body might cause that I guess. I suppose once the ultimate, first cause is found, we'll someday figure out how all the symptoms develope that come after, (once the immune system has become compromised). Maybe C1 constantly out of place, then yeast overgrowth happens because of weakened immune system, then toxins through out body, too much adrenaline... What else can happen? Oh, side effects from medication we have to take, all cascading to ickiness!

Like bshapiro said, I'm not a doctor either. But, I can say that I also experience terrible pain in my fingers and hands, as well as my feet and toes. They are also cold all of the time but that's a total different issue.

I was told by my old pain Doc (before I moved away) that the outside half of our ring fingers and pinkie fingers are controlled by one nerve and the other half of the ring finger and all of the others are controlled by another nerve. If you really pay attention when you're having the numbness in just the two fingers, you will see that it's really only HALF of your ring finger that is numb. (and it does feel really odd)! My understanding was that swelling in our wrists (and/or tunnel) is what causes the NUMBNESS. (where the nerves go through the 'tunnel' in our wrists). It makes total sense to me...but I really never looked into it. Due to the fact that there's nothing that can be done about it (to MY understanding)...I just deal with it and try not to put my arms and hands in the positions that I know are going to cause them to go numb.

As for the pain...I was DX as having RA as well as FMS, CFS and CMP, so I have to figure that between all of those, one of them is the cause of the hand/finger pain.

I do understand what you're going through and I know it is no fun and what I just wrote didn't help you one bit! But, maybe knowing that others with FMS suffer with it as well, it might just make you feel a little bit better!!

Hope you're having a pain free day!

I also have CMP, and my hands hurt ALL THE TIME. The more i use them, the worse they hurt. The weather affects them as well. If it gets cold or rains, they hurt especially bad.

HTH,

Amanda

I don't think I have contributed anything postive. So this will be the last negative, but I like this quote I read on FMS, it makes me smile. The author wrote: "The good news is FMS will not kill you, the bad news is you will wish it would".

P.S. The third day of rain here.
