"I have Crohn's Disease along with Fibromyalgia." (katiek)

MDJunction to me

"MDJunction to me is a life saver... when i first was diagnosed with Scheuermann's Disease i wrote a message to a page i found on google, hoping that they could help me.... you'd never know it but that weird feeling (you know that one where it feels like someone actually cares) came over me when i opened my email next day to find that someone on the other side of the world (at the American Medical Library)had read my message while i was sleeping, and there low and behold was the address to MDJunction.... well it is everything to me, i live it breathe it and love it!!!!! I have found many people who are struggling with similar issues banding together to help each other. It is the best place in the world, and i couldn't think of another place to go to meet so many lovely people....

thanks MDJunction

What does everyone think of inpatient pain centers. I have been checking into them, and most recently have begun communication with University of Virginia's in patient center. From what I understand, they take you off of all of your meds (wean - I should say), and then start over with your care. There are multiple modalities there to help you tolerate the med changes and pain. Then when you leave the meds you are on work at much lower doses than before. I think if I am offered the opportunity to go, I am going to try it.

Has anyone been to one of these?

Hi sandi, I am supposed to go to an out-patient pain clinic at the Mayo clinic for 3 to 4 weeks like the one you described. They take you off your meds. and use different therapies to help you deal with chronic pain..... like, occupational, behavioral, and cognitive therapy. They teach you stress management, exercise, breathing tech. and many different ways to get through without using medicine.

Let me know if you go and how it works out. I won't be able to do mine until summer..... need my older son to take care of my younger kids. I am going to hire him to babysit. That way he has money for all the fairs and stuff that go along with summer time and I don't have to hire someone I don't know to watch the kids.

I hope you are doing well!!! Your friend, Chris

I had an appointment but I cancelled it. Turns out that most of the therapies are NOT covered by my insurance and out-of-pocket expenses would have been in the thousands. The receptionist told me the appointment was covered, good thing I looked the place up on my own. They are still sending email ads trying to sell me suppliments. I also have biPolar&lupus, so I could never go off my meds. I am still seeking a pain MD, but unfortunately, I think my solution is more meds.

I won't be able to go if it is not covered under insurance. We just spent last evening on the computere applying for assistance--food stamps, energy assistance, and medical assistance. The first of June we will be living on 1500.00/ month and our house payment is 854.00. I hope something changes soom.
