Hey everyone! I am new...new to the group and newly diagnosed. I was curious what you guys thought I should do about something. My Psychiatrist is the one who monitors my medications including my Neurontin and I have asked him about getting something for the pain and he said he did not think it was a good idea for someone my age to start taking pain pills, but I am almost completely nonfunctional because the pain is so intense. What do you guys think?

Hey, I am 23 and my doctor has said the same thing. "well lets try this and this, come back in 3-4 weeks." I've gotten that run around for a while now and I am tired of it. Nothing works that she has given me! tremadol gives me weird side effects and the anti-inflammitory doesnt work. I am tired of this. I dont have the money or insurance to see a specialist. Its like they 'stereo type' us younger people to all be drug seekers and addicts. but they don't understand what were are going through and dont listen to what works for us.

I have heard that some doctors will prescribe it for Fibro and that some don't. I don't get any either, but am hoping that once I get into the pain clinic they will give me something to help me. I mean I can't even peel potatos without crying and I havn't been able to work for more than a year now. I have no life because I'm scared to death I will throw myself into a sea of pain.

Unfortunately being young makes it hard and not only that I'm on medicaid so they are probably thinking drug seeker, but believe me if I was drug seeking I could get what ever I want any time of day in the streets it's every where so I wouldn't be wasting my time on these idiot doctors who seem to like to lable people more than help them if I was some kind of drug seeker.

Also some advice I wish I had gotten allot sooner, if your doctor doesn't treat your pain then request to go to a pain specialist and if they wont then get a different doctor who is willing to give you pain meds for your fibro. I know several people who get pain meds for their fibro from their primary care physician.

I don't have insurance but I do have an appeal hearing for medicaid next tuesday so hopefully I will have more options if i get approved for that. I just wish that they understood how hard it is to feel pain in every moment of living.

Hello, I have been checking out what everyone has to say about pain meds with fibro. This is my first time posting. Well I agree with you fibromandi. I am 32 and been denied any sort of pain meds. I just went to see a pain management Dr. and she upped my dosage of Lyrica to 150 mg 2 times a day, which I will tell you hasn't done jack for me, and made me feel pain in other places that I haven't felt before, like in my heels (sharp, stabbing pain) and an awful sharp, stabbing pain in my left thigh. I am also way, way more tired than I have been, which I didn't think was possible. On the plus side I have finally gotten a good nights sleep. Sorry trailed off there, the Dr. also gave me stretches to do. I don't get that, seeing that I do stuff as much as I can. I try to bend and stretch on my own. I was rushed in and out of there so quick I didn't know what happened. My appt. was at 8am so I was still extremely stiff I was half asleep. I did have an extra 2 secs. with her to ask about pain meds and she was very short with me and said well what do you want me to do? She said what pain meds have you tried and I said, didn't you read what I wrote down, and she said no. So I started to tell her and she cut me off at Tramadol, and said do you want Tramadol and I said no it doesn't work, so she said well, we will just stick with the Lyrica. That was after I told her that it wasn't helping me and just upped my dose. I am not very firm with these Dr.s, and I know I should be. I have tried Darvocets, Tramadol, Naproxen, Ibuprofen, steroids, amitriptyline, Flexeril, and now Lyrica all with no relief. So far the only thing that helped slightly was hydrocodone, it didn't help completely but enough where I could do more that usual. I know it's a big bad drug but I am not looking for so major drugs I don't want to take anything stronger unless I have to but maybe the combo of Lyrica and hydrocodones might help me. I need to get back to work at least part time. I have been out of work for 7 months with no disabliity coming in anymore. I applied for SSD, but thats a joke for people with fibro to try and get. So as I have just written a book for you to all read, does anyone know how I can talk to the pain management Dr. without sounding like a junkie. Oh and I forgot to add that when I was talking about the pain I told her it was from the fibro and she said I dont want to know your diagnosis. Sorry this is soooo long.

I wan't to knopw how to ask for pain meds too without sounding like a junkie.

I also think Hydrocodone works great for the pain.I want to get on it so I too can get a job.

I had a urinary trct infection and they gave me Hydrocodone and the releife I felt was wonderful. I made those little pills last as long as I could. It's sad when all we need is a little pill and we can have a bit of a regular life.

Lilly, have you told her Hydrocones work for you and thats what you want? Also it's your job to let the pain management know if they are helping your pain or not. I would wait a couple of weeks and ask them to see me again and tell them that the upped dose is not working and that as much as you don't want to you need a heavier pain fighting med. It is their job to bring you releife, I mean this is what they are there for.

I can only imagine what my pain clinic visit will be like on the 28th.

No I didn't get a chance because she cut me off and then left the room before I really knew what happened, and then had a nurse bring me my new script for Lyrica. I think i might bring my sister in law with me to help me out and I too am on Medicaid so I feel you there, we are just pill popping freaks right, lol. I just want some relief for my sanity and my family, who has suffered for this especially my 11 yr old daughter. I do have an appt. on the 23rd so I will take your advice. I think I was just afraid because I waited so long from not having insurance for this appt. I guess I just wussed out.
