To date I like most of you have read a bunch of medical stuff about Fibromyalgia. I have noticed a common thread of supposed truth. while no one knows the cause, many doctors believe that fibromyalgia begins after an event. Whether it was an illness, or a trauma, many docs believe that it begins following an event.

For me, this fibromyalgia seems to have began after an event that occurred in May of 2007. In May of 2007, I experienced severely compromised ability in memory and cognitive thought, and I experienced migraines and vertigo. Later I suffered a mini-stroke. But I am now left wondering was that a separate event or the initial onset of fibromyalgia?

I am curious because I was tested for everything under the sun including a cat scan and 3 MRI's, a nuclear bone scan and a nuclear heart scan. They also did a ultra sound of my heart and an ultrasound of the arteries in my neck. Also as you can imagine, the took 20 tubes of blood and did 4 separate 24 hour urine tests, and they performed a breathing study and a sleep study, and a neuropsych evaluation. The results of all of these tests were that I indeed had memory problems and my cognitive abilities were indeed impaired, but they did not know why.

Then the doctor sent me to the rhuematologist, who said that I definitely have fibromyalgia, he gave me samples of lyrica.

So, my question is how many of you, my new fibro-friends, think that fibromyalgia is brought on by an event, or did it just happen on its own with you?

For me....I think it just happened on it's own!

I don't remember an event, I just remember that out of the blue I started noticing that I was very sore in certain spots almost like a bad bruise but there wouldn't be a bruise or anything there to explain WHY it was so sore to touch there. Then I started aching all over and be very stiff and very tired all the time. I couldn't concentrate very well and my short term memory was awful.

Dr's do say that it seems to be brought on my some event....if there was an event in my case..I don't remember it

I have depression and "I think" that has something to do with it myself...but who knows

Supposedly mine started after I had a silicone breast implant put in after a mastectomy. I was always in pain after. I had the implant removed but still had fibro. Docs said it already affected my immune sx. The only good thing is I sued the implant ppl and got a settlement.

Quite a lot of us have some sort of triggering event before we get fibromyalgia. But many of us do not. Fibromyalgia runs in my family (me, Mom, Grandpa, two great aunts, and at least one second cousin). Mom has had it since she was little and had absolutely no illness or trauma beforehand. I started feeling fibromyalgia pain during a bad bout of depression, but that could very well be a coincidence. I've been battling depression off and on since I was six and didn't have any problems with fibromyalgia until I was 23. Who knows? Your other health problems might be related to your fibromyalgia, or they could have nothing to do with each other.

Beloved Father God,
Help me befriend those who are lonely,
Help me comfort those who are hurting,
Help me do battle against the darkness,
And help me lead the way to You.
In Jesus' name, amen.
