my husband and I think that our pain from fibromyalgia would'nt be as bad if we lived in a warmer climate than michigan; this was a very cold winter and it was terrible for both of us. Please help us and tell us what you may know. thanx

I live in NE Ohio and we also had a long, hard, cold winter. It's the worst my fibro symptoms have ever been. I have spent most of the winter in bed with pain and fatigue.

Not sure of the scientific reason for it, but I tend to do much better in the spring and summer with the warmer weather! Another bad thing about winter around here is that there are so many cold and flu viruses floating around everywhere you go -- especially at the doctor's offices -- and with my lousy immune system I seemed to catch them all this year, then would go into sinus infections for weeks which would make the fibro just terrible! The combiniation of warm weather and not as much sickness is something I've been looking forward to for a long long time! I finally saw our first crocuses in bloom today -- about a month later than normal. Last year they were blooming on February 28th!

Welcome Emerald! This is a wonderful and caring group of people and I think you will find a lot of help and hope here!

-Sherry

thanks for your input, we are seriously considering moving south. Both of us have been struggling despite good medical care. I felt better when I went for a brief vacation to Florida and the pain was decreased. I wish you could find a way to help your immune system be more effective against viral colds and flu, as this is stil something that both of us haven't lost.

I live in East Tennessee. During the summer and warm parts of Spring the fibro isn't to bad. However, our winters are usually cold--not nearly as cold as Michigan or Ohio. The last time I was at the Reumatologists (spelling?) he ran a full blood panel and found I have a Vitamin-D deficency. During the Winter months we are indoors and the sun is not out as much therefore we do not receive enough Vitamin-D. In Spring and Summer we spend more time outdoors and the sun is out longer and we take in more Vitaman-D.

The #1 side-effect to not having enough Vitamin-D is muscle aches.

I am from Ohio, SW Ohio. That is where I live now. We lived in sunny North Carolina for 6 years cause I always wanted to live at the beach. My fibro was the same.

THANKS FOR REPLYING WITH THE INFO ON SOUTHERN LIVING, AND THE EFFECT ON PAIN. WE ARE WONDERING IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO LIVES IN WESTERN TN OR TEXAS. ALSO WE WERE WONDERING IF ANYONE WAS EVEN HELPED BY MOVING TO A WARMER CLIMATE. ONE STUMBLING BLOCK IN MOVING COULD BE GOOD MEDICAL CARE AND STARTING OVER WITH THE PROCESS OF FINDING A DR THAT DOESN'T THINK YOUR CRAZY AND CAN HELP WITH PAIN CONTROL MGMT. WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU FURTHER AND WE ARE APPRECIATIVE OF ALL WHO COMMENTED OR ARE FOLLOWING.
